Welcome to the Georgia Tech Honors Program, which combines the challenging academic standards of one of the world's finest research universities with the closer student-faculty connections one might expect to find at smaller colleges. Our mission is to create a lively environment in which students and faculty members learn from each other through a common commitment to intellectual inquiry, careful analysis, and energetic exchange of ideas.

On August 17th and 18th, we hosted 350 incoming first-year and transfer JMHP students (our biggest cohort EVER) along with 50 student guides for our annual John H. Martinson Honors Program Retreat. From group icebreakers to curriculum info sessions, breakout activities to outdoor fun at Rock Eagle 4-H Center, we love welcoming our new students to the program as well as the Georgia Tech community. Over the past two years, the John H. Martinson Honors Program staff team has worked closely with the company Suitable, partnering on several webinars and conference presentations. The Suitable platform hosts Jacket Journey, our student engagement platform used to track and gamify participation as well as develop skills outside of the classroom.
In recognition of the strength of the partnership and the success of Jacket Journey, the JMHP was selected as a Suitable Collaborator of the Year, with the awards presented at the Suitable Pathways Conference in July 2026! Martinson Honors Program graduate Carlton Cort (Electrical Engineering ‘26) was among the 2025-2026 academic year awardees, being presented with 3 awards!

The John H. Martinson Honors Program’s 2026 Outstanding Student and recent alum Esha Venkat was named a recipient of a 2026 Her Campus x e.l.f. Beauty 22 Under 22 Award for her work with NEST4US, one of the world’s largest youth-founded nonprofits. As a Public Policy major with a minor in Global Development, Esha works tirelessly to harness the power of kindness to uplift the communities she serves, dedicating over 10 years to NEST4US’s work in harnessing service to spark global change.

Honors alum Dr. Becky Byler (Biomedical Engineering '13) grew up practicing the philosophy of “taking the long cut"— she values enriching her portfolio of life experiences as opposed to taking shortcuts, and above all, being intentional with how she spends her time.

She was also a multi-year recipient of the Honors Program Challenge Fund, a long-standing JMHP initiative that provides students a $500 grant meant to encourage service-oriented experiences, motivate attendance to academic or leadership conferences, and support innovative projects of students’ own design.
