Attention students: The Woodruff School and the Georgia Tech chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) will host the Fall 2026 Career Fair on Monday, September 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Exhibition Hall, Midtown Rooms, on the Georgia Tech campus.

The career fair is open to all mechanical engineering undergraduate and graduate students. No registration is required.

Matthew McDowell, professor in Georgia Tech's School of Materials Science and Engineering and Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, has been appointed to a National Academies committee examining future battery technologies for defense applications. The committee's work will help identify promising technologies and research opportunities that could strengthen the nation's battery capabilities in the years ahead.

Last week, students enrolled in Capstone Design for the Fall 2026 semester heard industry sponsors pitch their projects during the Capstone Pitch Session.

Capstone Design is a culminating course offered to undergraduate students in several disciplines at Georgia Tech. Students work in teams to design, build, and test prototypes with real-world applications. At the end of each semester, students showcase their efforts at the Capstone Design Expo.

This summer, Woodruff School alumnus A.J. Milner, ME 2015, traveled to Le Mans, France, as part of the Bosch Motorsport on-site support team for the 94th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the world's most iconic endurance races.

Shortly after returning home, he was back in France to participate in the first fire-up of Ford's new hypercar at Oreca's facility in Provence.

Milner works in Bosch's Motorsport division, where he helps supply and support hybrid systems for endurance car racing teams, including Cadillac, BMW, Porsche, Alpine, Hyundai/Genesis, Acura, and, beginning next year, McLaren and Ford. His role takes him to endurance races around the world, providing on-site technical support for teams competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. 🏎️🐝

A new paper co-authored by Aaron Young, professor and James R. and Sarah R. Borders Faculty Fellow in the Woodruff School, was recently published in Nature Machine Intelligence.

The paper, β€œA roadmap for end-to-end task-agnostic exoskeleton control,” examines how artificial intelligence could enable lower-limb exoskeletons to provide assistance across a wide range of human movements and activities.

Assistant Professor and Woodruff Faculty Fellow Ellen Yi Chen Mazumdar has received a NASA Early Career Faculty Award to develop new methods for studying the extreme conditions spacecraft experience during atmospheric entry.

This award is part of NASA’s Space Technology Research Grants Program, which supports groundbreaking projects with the potential to transform space science and technology.

Through the three-year, $750,000 award, Mazumdar and her research team will develop laser-based methods to simultaneously measure temperature, chemical species, gas velocity, and other properties in the gases surrounding heat shield materials.

Hohyun (Henry) Lee, B.S. ME 2019, M.S. ME 2020, Ph.D. ME 2024, a postdoctoral fellow in the Woodruff School, has been selected for the Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance TL1 Postdoctoral Program.

His fellowship project, β€œA Clinically Deployable AI-Driven Transcranial Focused Ultrasound for Targeted Drug Delivery in Brain Tumors," aims to advance brain tumor treatment using focused ultrasound and artificial intelligence. The project builds on Lee’s research with Associate Professor Costas Arvanitis in the Ultrasound Biophysics & Bioengineering Laboratory.
