La Mesa Academy for Theological Studies

10/08/2026

Dr. Justo L. González, Cuban American historian, theologian, and educator, has dedicated much of his life to expanding opportunities for Latine theological scholarship and leadership. Through his involvement in founding the Asociación para la Educación Teológica Hispana (AETH), Hispanic Theological Initiative (HTI), and Hispanic Summer Program (HSP), he has helped create pathways for generations of leaders.

In May, Dr. González addressed La Mesa Academy’s inaugural graduating class, celebrating their achievements and recognizing their place in the continuing story of theological education.

At La Mesa, we believe theological formation is about more than what we learn. It's about how we grow, whom we serve, and the doors we open for those who come after us.

Today, Dr. Machado invited chapel attendees and online viewers to think differently about hope. Drawing from the biblical prophets and the promises of God, she spoke of a hope that looks beyond the uncertainty of the present and toward what is still to come.

Hope is not passive. Hope itself is an act of courage. What does that mean to you?

On the first day of Hispanic-Latine Heritage Month, we celebrate the power of storytelling to express the full range of our experiences and build community by reminding us that we have more in common than what divides us.

Thank you, , for sharing your stories and talent, and for creating space for meaningful conversations about the realities and challenges Hispanic and Latine immigrants face today.

This is a must-watch film, and we can’t wait to see it in select theaters beginning October 9.

Even across screens, formation is shared. Cohort 3 began the semester last month with Fundamentals of Academic Theological Inquiry, bringing their experiences, ministries, and questions into the classroom as they learn with and from one another. 💭
