Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Tech Innovation at the crossroads of humanities, social sciences, and technology. The liberal arts have been part of Georgia Tech since it opened its doors in 1888.

We have since grown to prominence as one of the Institute’s six colleges. Research and education in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts bridge the traditional separation between engineering, science, and computing, and the humanities and social sciences. From this interdisciplinary crossroads, our faculty and students consider the human implications of technologies, policies, and actions, and c

reate sustainable solutions for our world. Our graduates are distinguished by their ability to navigate both technical and non-technical realms. They enter careers in government, business, public policy, international affairs, law, technology, and new media. First formed as a college in 1948, Ivan Allen College was re-founded in 1990 in honor of former Atlanta mayor Ivan Allen, Jr. Mayor Allen was a transformational urban leader and a pivotal advocate for the advancement of civil rights in America. His humanitarian vision and social courage, and his commitment to social justice and ethically responsible civic leadership guide research and learning in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, and our engagement with the world around us.
