Last month, the Criminal and Civil Justice Institute hosted a Lunch & Learn with alumna Luci Harrell 24'! ⚖️

Luci is the founder of the Atlanta Community Support Project, an organization dedicated to supporting justice-impacted Atlantans. She shared her story, spoke about the work the organization is doing in our community, and highlighted ways students can get involved.

Thank you, Luci, for taking the time to connect with our students and for the meaningful work you're doing across Atlanta.

🍕 Our Fall Pizza with the Dean series kicked off with a great conversation featuring guest speaker Kellyann Malone, an associate at Nelson Mullins.

Ms. Malone practices in corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, emerging companies and venture capital, and business services. She shared insights into her career path and what it takes to build a practice in these areas with our students.

Thank you to Peter Diaz, senior associate at King & Spalding, for visiting Professor Emma Wylly's Pretrial Practice & Procedure class! His presentation, "Lifecycle of a Lawsuit: From Complaint to Judgment," walked students through each stage of a case: complaint, motion to dismiss or answer, discovery, summary judgment, trial, post-trial, and appeals. ⚖️

We were honored to welcome Judge William S. Duffey, Jr., former U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Georgia, as part of our Fall 2026 Professionalism Series. ⚖️

Judge Duffey spoke with students about the pursuit of purpose and professionalism in the practice of law, drawing on his career as a federal judge, U.S. Attorney, and King & Spalding partner. He is also the author of The Significant Lawyer: The Pursuit of Purpose and Professionalism.

Meet Director of Advocacy Programs Amy Waggoner! ⚖️

Professor Waggoner brings over 30 years of trial and appellate experience to AJMLS, including courtroom litigation, mediation, arbitration, and collaborative law. She founded and led three independent legal practices, served as a Municipal Court Judge, and has trained hundreds of attorneys and mediators throughout her career, alongside adjunct teaching experience at Georgia State University College of Law. At AJMLS, she is committed to helping students build confidence and practical skills through hands-on advocacy experiences, mentorship, and community.
