Today is GEORGIA MATCH Day 2026! 🩵

Choosing a college that fits your goals can open the door to many possibilities. GEORGIA MATCH helps Georgia high school seniors discover where they qualify for admission based on their HOPE GPA.

The University System of Georgia is proud to partner with the Georgia Student Finance Commission and other state agencies on this effort to help students explore their higher education options.

Last October, more than 132,000 seniors in the Class of 2026 received direct-match letters. This year, at least 130,000 students in the Class of 2027 will receive theirs.

A lasting tribute for a lifetime of public service and support for higher education in Georgia. 🏆

Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) honored USG Chancellor Sonny Perdue by naming its Warner Robins campus administration building in his honor. A Houston County native, Perdue has made a lasting impact on higher education across the state.

Thank you to CGTC and the TCSG - Technical College System of Georgia for recognizing his contributions to Georgia’s students, colleges and communities.

University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue has named Dr. Tim Lieuwen interim president of Georgia Tech, effective Nov. 1.

A double alumnus of Georgia Tech, Lieuwen currently serves as the university’s executive vice president for Research, overseeing its research enterprise, economic development initiatives and sponsored projects. He will lead the university during the nationwide search for its next permanent president.

ICYMI: The October Board of Regents meeting was hosted by the University of Georgia, giving Regents, Chancellor Perdue and USG leaders from across the state a chance to see more of the people and work that make our public colleges and universities important.

During the visit, we toured UGA’s new medical school and athletic facilities, heard from professors, alumni and current students about their research and experiences, explored student exhibits, got to see a performance by the Redcoat Band and met Hairy Dawg.

Thank you to UGA’s students, faculty, alumni and staff for sharing your work and welcoming the Board to campus. We appreciate the opportunity to learn, connect and see the impact firsthand.

Georgia’s public colleges and universities are celebrating a record year.

The University System of Georgia conferred 86,660 degrees in FY2026, the most in a single year and a 4.9% increase over FY2025.

Behind that record, thousands of Georgians are reaching important milestones:

📈 55,699 undergraduate degrees

🧑‍💻 30,961 graduate and professional degrees

📃 21.5% more one-year undergraduate certificates

🎓 12.2% more graduate certificates

Since 2011, USG has seen the number of degrees awarded grow by 58%. More Georgians are taking the opportunity to earn a credential, prepare for a career and build a stronger future for themselves and their communities.

History made at Savannah State University!

Savannah State University is pleased to announce its intent to offer its first doctoral degree, the Doctor of Public Administration (DPA), beginning Fall 2027, pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

This historic milestone marks a new chapter for Georgia’s oldest public HBCU and expands opportunities for advanced education, leadership and service.

A new chapter is ahead for the University System of Georgia.

The Board of Regents has named Thomas A. Fanning as the 15th chancellor of USG. A Georgia Tech graduate and longtime business leader, Fanning brings more than 40 years of leadership experience to the role.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, he will lead 25 public colleges and universities serving more than 382,000 students across Georgia. His priorities include keeping college within reach, supporting innovation and preparing graduates for Georgia’s future.

Fanning succeeds Chancellor Sonny Perdue, who announced he will retire on Dec. 31 after more than four decades of public service. Read more here: https://tinyurl.com/USG-Chancellor
