Whitney M. Young, Jr. School of Social Work WMYJSSW was founded in 1920 and offers a BSW, MSW and Ph.D. degree. Our school champions an Afrocentric practice model.

We are the nation's first accredited social work school at an HBCU and we have been accredited since 1928.

Thursday, October 8th, 2026 brought our community together for a wonderful Clark Atlanta University Whitney M. Young Jr. School of Social Work Office of Practice Education Meet and Greet.

It was an inspiring evening connecting with colleagues, faculty, and staff to celebrate our continued partnerships and shared dedication to empowering students and transforming communities throughout the 2026–2027 academic year. The BSW Program Pre-Homecoming Mixer held on Wednesday, October 7th! lived up to its theme of “Building Connections, Community, and Change.” A wonderful one-hour gathering and insightful engagement of the BSW scholars with the SOSW/BSW faculty and staff! Special thanks to WMYJSSW Dean Sebrena Jackson; Associate Dean, Dr. Counts-Spriggs, the BSW Director Dr. Mustapha Alhassan, and many SOSW/BSW faculty & staff for their presence and support of the BSW scholars.

Special thanks to our Campus Success Partner, Ms. Paridesa Campbell, a CAU Success Coach and our two REDI Scholars present (Ms. Shavonne Simmons (Panther Express Academic Success Coordinator) & Ms. Tiaera Pritchett, (First-Year/Second Year Experience Initiative)--All three are current scholars in the SOSW PhD Program. Helpful tutoring, mentoring, and survey information was shared to inform and mobilize BSW student voices to determine how best to serve their academic needs as they prepare for post- midterm success! Super proud of our BSW scholars!

On October 1st, 2026, The Whitney M. Young Jr. School of Social Work brought our MSW community together for our annual MSW Mix & Mingle.

Our students had the opportunity to meet new people, build connections, and enjoy an evening filled with fun and community. From interactive games and exciting prizes to swag bags, giveaways, catered food, and refreshments, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Most importantly, the event created a space for MSW students, faculty, staff, and alumni to connect, share experiences, and strengthen the relationships that make the WMYJSSW community so special.

Thank you to the MSW program and everyone who joined us to help make this year’s MSW Mix & Mingle a success. We look forward to continuing to create opportunities for connection, professional growth, and community within the WMYJSSW.

A $150,000 investment is coming to Thayer Hall! Tuesday evening, Clark Atlanta University joined The Home Depot at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to celebrate an exciting investment in the future of our students.

CAU was awarded a $200,000 Campus Improvement Grant through The Home Depot’s 2026 Retool Your School program—and we are thrilled that $150,000 of that funding will support the development of the Collaboration and Innovation Hub in Thayer Hall, home of the Whitney M. Young Jr. School of Social Work!

The new space will provide our social work students with an environment designed to encourage collaboration, innovation, connection, and learning as they prepare to become the next generation of social work leaders and changemakers.

A tremendous thank you to The Home Depot Retool Your School initiative for continuing to invest in institutions like Clark Atlanta University and in spaces that help our students learn, collaborate, and thrive. WMYJSSW Leadership on Capitol Hill! We are proud to celebrate our Dean, Dr. M. Sebrena Jackson, LICSW Jackson, who was invited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) to serve as a panelist for a national policy briefing on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on social work education and practice at the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Dean Jackson joined social work educators, practitioners, researchers, and leaders to explore the risks and opportunities presented by AI, its growing influence on education and practice, and the role policymakers can play as this technology continues to evolve.

Having the Dean of the Whitney M. Young Jr. School of Social Work represented in this national conversation reflects our continued commitment to innovation, leadership, and preparing the profession for the future.
