Our next senior spotlight is MIDN 1/C Kareem! She is from Ellenwood, GA and studies Cybersecurity at Kennesaw State University. MIDN Kareem joined NROTC to challenge herself, to grow as a person and a leader, and for the opportunity to serve as a Naval Officer. Throughout her time in the unit, MIDN Kareem served as Chief twice, and she will commission as a Surface Warfare Officer upon graduation. When not focused on training or her studies, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, traveling, and exploring different events around Atlanta. One of her favorite memories at the unit was traveling to Seattle to represent the battalion at the Northwest Navy Competition at the University of Washington. One piece of advice she would give to the underclassmen is don’t let one bad grade, bad day, or difficult semester make you feel like you don’t belong. Keep showing up, ask for help when you need it, and take advantage of every opportunity ROTC gives you. It goes by a lot faster than you think, so enjoy the people and experiences along th

Congratulations to Lieutenant Silberstein on her promotion to Lieutenant Commander!

As a Naval Aviator, she previously flew the MH-60R with the HSM-46 “Grandmasters” and completed two deployments, gaining invaluable operational experience. LCDR Silberstein recognizes this promotion as a significant career milestone and extends her deepest gratitude to her husband and two daughters for their unwavering support and sacrifice throughout her service.

Since joining the Georgia Tech NROTC battalion in the fall of 2025, she has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and a steadfast commitment to educating and developing future officers. We sincerely thank LCDR Silberstein for her hard work and outstanding dedication to the battalion!

Our senior spotlight brings us to MIDN Nguyen! MIDN Nguyen is from Lawrenceville, Georgia, and is currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. In their free time, they enjoy playing basketball, playing guitar, and backpacking. They joined NROTC because their biggest fear was working a 9-to-5 desk job, and they wanted to do something exciting. During their time in the unit, they have held multiple billets as MWRO, Chief, OPSO, and BNCO. MIDN Nguyen plans to commission into the submarine community. Their favorite memories in the unit include stealing AFROTC’s foosball table and attending dive school. One piece of advice they would give to underclassmen is to never miss an opportunity to spend time with classmates, because the memories and connections are some of the best parts of college. Hooyah, MIDN Nguyen!

Last Sunday, Georgia Tech NROTC midshipmen were given the unique opportunity to see the F/A-18 aircraft that participated in the flyover during the Georgia Tech vs. Tennessee game. During the visit, midshipmen had the opportunity to meet and speak with the pilots, gaining valuable insight into naval aviation and the experiences of those who operate these aircraft.
