🌟 GSU EPS New Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Boshi Wang

GSU EPS welcomes Dr. Boshi Wang, Limited-Term Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at Georgia State University.

A GSU alumnus, Dr. Wang earned his doctorate in Educational Policy Studies with a concentration in Research, Measurement, and Statistics as a Second Century Initiative Ph.D. Fellow. His teaching focuses on quantitative methods, research design, research ethics, and program evaluation, with an emphasis on making complex methodologies accessible to students. His research explores advanced statistical modeling, equitable assessment, and ethical research practices.

Dr. Wang also investigates the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into research and examines how research ethics education can address social and racial injustices in higher education. We are excited to spotlight his contributions to research methodology, teaching, and educational equity!

📸💡🐾 GSU EPS New Faculty Spotlight

We shine the light on Dr. Michael Sanseviro, Professor of Practice in Higher Education at GSU EPS.

Dr. Michael L. Sanseviro returned to Georgia State University in December 2019 as the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement and Dean of Students and moved into the Interim Vice President role in November 2020. He began his career in the University System of Georgia in 1996 in University Housing when Georgia State first became a residential university, then served in various administrative roles at Georgia Perimeter College and Kennesaw State University.

With over 30 years of college teaching experience at public and private institutions, Michael earned his Ph.D. at Georgia State, his masters at Florida State, and bachelors at Emory University. Committed to student success and community service, he serves in numerous professional and civic associations and is currently the Board Chair and immediate past president for Golden Key International Honour Society.

Dr. Burkhard teaches EPS9260: Race, Class and Gender where students engage in conversations related to the intersectionality of various social identities and the theories that help analyze said categories and policies that impact people that ascribe to them.

🟠🟡🔴 GSU EPS celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 through October 15).

We honor the work and scholarship that Hispanic Americans have contributed to research, educational practice and leadership.

Today we highlight Jaime Escalante. Jaime Escalante (1930–2010) was a Bolivian-American educator best known for teaching mathematics at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles. He became nationally recognized for helping students from a historically underserved community succeed in Advanced Placement Calculus. Escalante challenged low expectations by emphasizing rigorous instruction, high standards, and students’ ability to achieve academically. His story was portrayed in the 1988 film Stand and Deliver, which brought his teaching philosophy to a broader audience. Escalante's legacy continues to influence conversations about educational equity, teacher expectations, and the power of effective teaching.
