On our final weekend of summer members of the flute studio had our studio party! Tonight’s activities consisted of copious amounts of pizza, fruit, vegetables, banana bread, mochi, flute games, board games, magic tricks, and more. Even Chloe the black cat got in on the fun!

Yesterday morning, the Georgia State University Flute Choir performed our Atlanta Voices program to the National Flute Association community! Thank you to the National Flute Association, Georgia State School Of Music , and our greater community for giving us a once in a lifetime experience; a performance that is the first of its kind in our School of Music.
This NFA post is one of the posts that cover how much we enjoyed Portland. We met so many friendly faces, reconnected with those we love, explored the city, ate fantastic Chinese food, and overall had a fantastic time. We are so grateful for what music can do for us all! 💙🪈

And to cap off July, welcome, Reneia Young! Reneia is joining us as a transfer student within GSU and had been playing flute in the School of Music’s Concert Band. Reneia has been diligently rehearsing with us for our upcoming NFA performance in August! As she is already working with the studio, Reneia notes the welcoming environment that she has experienced from the current members and is grateful to be a part of us.

NFA is just TWO weeks away, and we’d love to thank our 61 donors on GoFundMe, our bake sale customers, and Georgia State School Of Music for supporting our fundraiser to attend the convention in Portland, OR. Your generous gifts have allowed a number of our studio members to attend their first convention, perform at the NFA for the first time, and for a select few, take a flight for the first time!

Joining us at the NFA this August, and also getting a flute choir piece premiered at the convention, is incoming graduate student Henry Bransdorfer. Henry is a graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he earned a degree in Japanese, and holds a master’s in composition from Elisabeth University of Music in Hiroshima, Japan. Henry is excited for the lively, diverse urban campus of GSU and the wonderful faculty, especially since him and Professor Petrasek share a bachelors degree not in music. Welcome!

Another week, another new studio member! Welcome, Olivia Banks! Olivia is pursuing an Artist Certificate here at GSU, and holds degrees from Reinhardt University and University of New Mexico. Olivia is most excited to meet and work with all of us during her year here.

A new week, another new student introduction! Welcome, incoming graduate student Adriana Varn! Adriana comes to us from the University of Idaho, and is excited to join in on the musicianship of our studio and greater community.

As we are enjoying our much needed summer vacations, the GSU Flute Studio is excited to begin introducing our community to our incoming studio members. Welcome, incoming graduate student Gabriel Rosado Bauzá! Gabriel comes to us from SUNY Purchase and currently serves as a musician in the U.S. Army Concert Band in New York City with the 42nd Infantry Division Band. Gabriel looks forward to joining the GSU community and sharing music with new colleagues and audiences. 🇺🇸
