This summer, Auburn forestry major Matalynn Padgett gained invaluable experience through an internship with Weyerhaeuser at their Timberlands Office in Thomasville, Alabama. 🌲

Her internship also took her beyond Thomasville. Matalynn visited mills and other Timberlands offices across the South and attended an intern event in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she connected with other interns and explored career paths within the company. 🤝

The internship sparked her interest in land management as her future career and even has her considering pursuing a master's degree in forest business. This immersive opportunity helped Matalynn build confidence, strengthen technical skills and explore the professional possibilities within timber management. 📈✨✨

Joel Martin, director of Auburn University's Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center (SDFEC), has been honored as the Conservation Educator of the Year by Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey and the Alabama Wildlife Federation. 🌲🏆

The award recognizes Martin's dedication to hands-on teaching, mentorship, and his commitment to helping students understand the interconnected nature of forests and wildlife. Under his leadership, the SDFEC has become a living classroom where students gain firsthand experience in many areas. 🔥🦌

Martin's leadership has shaped the academic experience of every Auburn forestry graduate since 2006 and every wildlife graduate since 2012. Congratulations, Joel, on this well-deserved recognition! 🙌 🎉

Auburn University College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment (CFWE) graduate Sid Warren spent his summer at NASA's EarthRISE Developers Academy, where he worked alongside NASA scientists to create geospatial products supporting conservation efforts on the island of Maui, Hawaii. 🌺🌍🛰️

Based at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, Warren's team collaborated directly with different foundations and stakeholders in Hawaii to address real-world environmental challenges.

Warren's academic background in Auburn's Geospatial Information Science (GSIS) degree program provided a strong foundation in GIS software, remote sensing fundamentals, and spatial analytics. These skills proved essential for the project's success and fit perfectly with its conservation lens. 🌲

An Auburn University faculty member is advancing the future of environmental science through AI innovation. 💡

Assistant professor Yang Yang is partnering with Oak Ridge National Laboratory for a U.S. Department of Energy-funded project that will revolutionize how scientists model and predict underground processes across diverse ecosystems. 🌎

The challenge? Detecting critical minerals and natural resources requires understanding incredibly complex interactions happening beneath the surface. Some of these are interactions that current models can't fully capture. The solution? An AI-driven modeling framework that integrates process-based simulations, experimental data, and field observations to deliver more accurate predictions. 🔍
