Southeastern Center Of Robotics Education- hosts competitions and work with students & educators in STEM

The Southeastern Center of Robotics Education, or SCORE, is a new, innovative Auburn University outreach initiative designed to more effectively develop and deliver robotics education to K-12 students and teachers. The SCORE program centralizes the robotics education activities already underway in Auburn’s College of Sciences and Mathematics, College of Engineering and Auburn University Aviation Center, and provides a mechanism for growth in the area of robotics education outreach. The SCORE initiative is the only center of its kind in the country. By centralizing robotics programming, faculty and staff at Auburn are better able to serve K-12 teachers and students with a diverse and targeted approach. The programs offered through SCORE aim to provide education on the use of robots on the land, in the air, and in the water, thus reflecting Auburn University’s commitment to research, outreach and instruction as a land, sea and space grant institution. The program already incorporates both land-based and air-based robots, with a focus this year on offering drone-based programs, camps, clubs, workshops and competitions. In 2017-2018, SCORE will expand to include aquatic robots. South’s BEST, or Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology, is the premier robotics program hosted by Auburn University and is included as a SCORE program. BEST Robotics is a dynamic community-based enterprise that aims to inspire middle and high school students to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology, and mathematics through participation in a sports-like science and engineering-based robotics competition.

» SERC 2026! 🤖 «

Last week, we hosted the 2026 Southern Educational Robotics Conference (SERC) at Auburn University! Educators from across the Southeast came together for two days of robotics, coding, and STEM education. Throughout the conference, attendees participated in different sessions, explored new technologies, and visited exhibitors to learn about resources they could bring back to their classrooms.

We were also excited to welcome Tinesha Ross from United Launch Alliance as our keynote speaker! She shared her journey in aerospace engineering and reminded educators how much their words and encouragement can impact students.

During the conference, we also recognized Tracy Wright of Elmore County Schools with the Terry Marbut Excellence in Robotics Education Award for his dedication to expanding robotics opportunities for students and teachers. 🏆

Thank you to all the attendees, presenters, and exhibitors who helped make SERC 2026 possible! We hope everyone enjoyed the conference, and we look forward to seeing you again next year! 😁

Dear Alabama Robotics Community,

After careful consideration, SCORE at Auburn University will continue serving as an Event Partner with the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF) for the 2026-27 season. We recognize that the recent changes within the educational robotics community have created uncertainty for many teams, coaches, and educators. Although we still do not have all the answers, we DO know that as an organization SCORE remains committed to its mission of expanding access to high-quality robotics education, inspiring future STEM professionals, and equipping educators with the tools to teach future-ready skills. This decision reflects our commitment to that mission, and we look forward to continuing to support Alabama students, educators, and the robotics community throughout the upcoming season.

We look forward to working alongside our dedicated coaches, volunteers and partners who continue to invest in robotics education for Alabama students. SCORE exists to help schools and teachers be successful in robotics and that mission remains unwavering.

Thank you,

The Team at SCORE

» Week 4 of S.C.O.R.E. Camps with Science Matters! 😁☀️ «

This week featured Wild About Coding and Competitive Robotics!

In Wild About Coding, campers explored coding and robotics through animal-themed activities using Dash robots and Sphero robots. They completed fun challenges while learning coding concepts and discovering how technology can be inspired by the natural world.

In Competitive Robotics, campers learned about this year’s robotics game by studying the game manual, building their own robots, and developing game strategies. They also learned about the engineering design process while creating and maintaining engineering notebooks before putting their robots to the test in a friendly competition.
