This spring, our music students took center stage in the Musical Theater Showcase! Their performances highlighted the creativity, talent, dedication, and hard work that brought each scene to life.
In this unique hands-on musical theater course, students selected a character from the musical theater canon to study in depth. Through research and performance preparation, they made creative decisions about portraying their character and directing selected scenes.
Under the guidance of their professor, students not only starred in their scenes, but also took on the role of director — making casting decisions, planning entrances and exits, developing blocking and choreography, considering lighting, and selecting costumes, props, and set pieces using materials they sourced and created themselves, often through thrifting and resourceful design.
The result was an exciting showcase of performance, collaboration, and imagination brought to life on stage!
