A seat at Auburn’s Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center has become a front-row opportunity for Auburn College of Education EAGLES student Richard Nettles to pursue two of his greatest passions: the arts and writing. Through an internship with local magazine, Uniquely You!, Nettles regularly attends live performances at the Gogue Center and crafts reviews that showcase both his growing talents as a writer and his appreciation for the performing arts. Auburn’s College of Education, in partnership with University Writing and the national organization Keys to Literacy, will host nationally recognized literacy expert Joan Sedita in October for a public event focused on strengthening writing instruction and advancing student literacy outcomes. “An Evening with Literacy Expert Joan Sedita” is scheduled for Oct. 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Auburn's Melton Student Center Ballroom. Hosted by Maris Henry, an Austin, Texas, native, EAGLES Program Auburn University student and video intern in our college's Office of Communications and Marketing, this new monthly series spotlights the people, programs and events that make our college so special. In the first episode, Maris takes viewers inside EAGLES Preview Day, where prospective students and families learned more about Auburn’s comprehensive transition program for students with intellectual disabilities.
