⭐️Course Spotlight: SPAN 3610(Business Spanish)

The oral exam in this class consists of a mock job interview with the professor (Dr. Carly Carver) and two other panelists serving as the “hiring committee.” Students create a series of portfolios leading up to the mock interview in which they locate an existing ad in a Spanish-speaking country for a job they would apply for in the real world. They then research the business that houses the job, research the job position in detail, utilize an online platform called Globesmart to research the business culture of the target country and self-assess their cultural readiness to work in that country, and create a C.V or cover letter tailored to the job. They use this portfolio to prepare them for the job interview where they are asked a series of questions related to the job. This project was designed to provide students with hands-on experience preparing and executing one of the most likely tasks they will face during and after graduation.

"The mock interviews in Business Spanish were a positive experience, for the students as well as for us as professors. It's great to provide our students the opportunity to practice as they are about to enter the work force. For me, it's rewarding to see how far they have come during their time with us in EWL." - Dr. Chris Botero

“These types of projects are invaluable because they prepare our students for the real world. It was an honor to participate in the mock interview process and witness their professional growth.” - Dr. Giada Biasetti.

One often-overlooked form of influence is the vigor and finesse in foreign affairs that comes from understanding our strategic competitors, as well as friends and partners, in the languages that formed their opinions, outlooks and plans.

Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 - October 15! September 15 is a significant day because it is the anniversary of the independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Come by the library and check out a book about the history of Hispanic Americans or an entertaining fictional read by a Hispanic author. Finally it’s out! Cow Brains is a book that includes short stories and poems by Professors Anna Harris-Parker, Jim Minick and Spencer Wise. Augusta Univeristy ‘s English and World Languages’ students, supervised by Professor Giada Biasetti, translated these short stories and poems into Spanish and they did an excellent job! It will be included in Articoli Liberi’s donation program. Next shipping ready to go: Abriendo Mentes, an NGO based in Costa Rica, where AL had the chance to contribute to the opening of a new Public Library dedicated to the local community. English and World Languages at Augusta University

English and World Languages at Augusta University

Why World Languages? The languages we study are not “foreign”: 48 million people in the US speak Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Arabic (including 1.5 million in Georgia)! World Languages is the name used by more of our peer institutions, as well as the Georgia Department of Education. This change not only better represents current trends in the field, it also more accurately describes the programs offered by our department. Welcome to English and World Languages!
