“I am a senior Special Education undergraduate student at Augusta University. Recently, I was a full-time student, completing field experience hours, teaching at a preschool and daycare full-time and serving tables on the weekends to provide for myself, personally and educationally. Doing all of that is not impossible, but it can be intense physically. Therefore, at the beginning of this semester, I decided to step down from one job, and lost one source of income. That was a tough decision financially, but I trusted that I would be okay and provision would come. The next thing I knew, I received a random notification that I was a recipient of two scholarships and grants based on need. With the help of scholarship sponsors, I can focus more specifically on my students and studies. I cannot express how thankful and honored I am that people would choose to sponsor me through scholarships. When you give and provide scholarships to students at Augusta University, you are giving to students like me working multiple jobs, internships and attending classes to provide for themselves financially and grow in knowledge and experience educationally. The financial support takes so much weight off of our shoulders. For me, I know without a doubt that teaching is my calling, and I am honored to fulfill such a calling to teach and love on students who are our future. When you give towards scholarships, specifically to the College of Education, you are investing not only in the education and lives of undergraduate students. Your investment leaks into the lives and education of our current and future students. Thank you for being a blessing to us through your decision to give to provide scholarships for Augusta University students.”

“Before coming to college, I had no idea what it meant to do research or basic lab work, but I am grateful to have had a thesis mentor who was patient and forgiving and was always willing to teach me. Receiving the Emil K. Urban Research Award was a humbling and significant milestone because it symbolized that the hard work that my parents, my thesis advisor, my professors, and I had put in over the years had paid off. In my final semester, as I finish my Honors thesis and present my research at various conferences, this scholarship continues to inspire me on my journey to become a physician-scientist," Ananya Chakraborty.

SEEP Celebrates Half-Century

Student Educational Enrichment Program (SEEP) was designed to help solve racial issues in health care through simple addition: better balancing the ratio of minority patients to doctors by placing more minority or economically disadvantaged physicians into practice. Congratulations on 50 years!

Just days after the killing of George Floyd, Kyle Goble, a second-year medical student teaching SEEP’s health disparities course, decided to break from his curriculum. With protests and demonstrations still rampant, Goble had to give his students a safe space to talk and vent —about what was goi...
