We also checked in with Jordan Pruner (@micycle_jordan) who is STILL living abroad in South Korea for #IEW2020. Jordan spent a summer in Paris as part of the European Council (now @USGGoesGlobal) and participated in the Model United Nations program to NYC.

Here’s what Jordan had to share: “Studying abroad in Paris 2009 was my first time abroad. It didn’t open my eyes to all the new things out there - I already knew the world had so much to offer - but it led me to realize just how similar everyone around the world is. Despite different cultures, I realized we all want generally the same things. So I decided then that I wanted to work internationally so I could show others that we all aren’t so different.

When I moved to South Korea to teach English, I didn’t expect to stay for more than a year, but I just celebrated my 6th year here! It’s a wonderful country, with lots of outdoor activities and very good transportation. And despite having such an extremely homogenous population, there is a huge variety of food in Seoul!”

Today’s #iew2020 #augstudyabroadalumni feature is Taylor Rodridguez (@tayyyrod). While at AU, Taylor participated in study abroad programs to Ecuador/the Galapagos Islands & Salamanca, Spain! Now, Taylor is pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Taylor shared the following with us about her study abroad experiences while she was a student at @aug_university:

“Taking my education outside of the classroom was the best decision I made at Augusta University! Not only did I have new experiences, but I also learned about cultural differences and values. I’m now pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Within this program I work as a mental healthcare provider. The study abroad program increased my self-awareness and shaped my passion for emphasizing diversity within my current role.”

Check out Taylor’s photos to be inspired! The first one is Taylor now, the next 2 are from her summer in Salamanca, the fourth is from the Galapagos, and the last from Ecuador.

Happy Tuesday Jags! To celebrate #iew2020, we’re excited to feature 3 of our #augstudyabroadalumni this week. We checked in with Brandon Arant (@livinginadvance) first. Brandon participated in Biology programs in Peru and Arizona, as well as the Model UN program in New York City. Here’s what he had to share:

“Studying abroad was one of the BEST decisions I ever made in college. It redefined my passions and helped redirect my life. Growing up my family didn’t travel much and I had never even been on an airplane. So, I never really had a desire to “see the world.” But after my first trip abroad to Peru with @aug_studyabroad, my eyes were opened and I was hooked on traveling. I had a new appreciation for discovering life experiences, change, stepping outside of my comfort zone into the unknown, and seeing the beauties the world has to offer.

Some odd number of countries later, I learned to live to be happy and enjoy life. I learned to let happiness be my motivation for everything I do in life. For me, that has meant spending time on experiences, not things. This idea has recently led me to convert a van into a camper to travel across America with my fiancé and our two dogs. We sold almost everything we owned and are in the final stages of the build, hoping to be on the road by the beginning of 2021. Looking back, instead of simply “seeing the world”, studying abroad instilled the desire in me to “experience the world!”

Follow along with Brandon’s travels at @livinginadvance & discover more about all the amazing locations featured in his photos in our stories.

Did you know the “Mediterranean Diet” (which includes the types of food common in Greek cuisine) has been proven to decrease risk of disease & is connected to living longer? Additionally, in Greece, dinner is usually eaten after 9:00pm & can last for hours!

Travel to Greece this summer to experience it for yourself! Link in bio to full presentation of the Greece trip.
