🌟 Staff Spotlight: Karly Henson

Meet Karly Henson, Office Specialist for the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences!

Whether she's answering questions, supporting faculty and students, coordinating travel requests, or helping keep daily operations running smoothly, Karly plays an important role in keeping SCCS moving forward. She also supports the Information Systems & Security department and is currently tackling one of her favorite projects—reorganizing the school's shared Box drive.

One thing Karly wants people to know is that administrative staff support more than just faculty. They also work closely with students, staff, and visitors, helping behind the scenes to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Dariusz Kowalski!

The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences is proud to celebrate Dr. Dariusz Kowalski, professor of computer science, on officially receiving the 2026 Prize for Innovation in Distributed Computing at SIROCCO 2026.

This prestigious international award recognizes nearly two decades of contributions to distributed computing, a field that explores how computer systems communicate, coordinate and operate reliably in complex environments. Dr. Kowalski's research has helped advance understanding in areas such as wireless communications, network security and communication efficiency.

We are honored to have faculty whose research is making an impact around the world while also helping mentor and inspire the next generation of computer scientists here at Augusta University.

🔦 Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Hoda Maleki

At Augusta University's School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, Dr. Hoda Maleki, Associate Professor, leads the System Security and Applied Cryptography Lab (SYSSEClab), where graduate researchers are working to make computing more secure, private and trustworthy.

Supported by National Science Foundation-funded projects, SYSSEClab conducts research at the intersection of applied cryptography, system security and trustworthy AI. The lab's work includes privacy-preserving data analysis, secure computation, intrusion detection, blockchain-based security solutions and emerging challenges in AI security.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into software development and everyday technology, Dr. Maleki and her team are helping address critical questions surrounding privacy, security and trust. Their recent research, including work accepted to ARES 2026, examines the security risks associated with AI-generated software and autonomous AI systems.

Through innovative research and student mentorship, Dr. Maleki and SYSSEClab are helping shape the future of trustworthy computing.

🏁🤖 Race day is almost here!

Today, our VICEROY Cyber Kids campers dove deeper into robotics as they continued working with their Cutebots. Campers learned how to control their robots, adjust speeds and acceleration through coding, and test how different commands impact performance.

They also tackled one of the biggest challenges yet—programming their robots to successfully navigate turns and stay on track in preparation for tomorrow's races.

The competition is heating up, and our campers are ready to put their coding skills to the test. Stay tuned to see who crosses the finish line first! 🚀

Day 3 = unlocked. 🚀🤖

Today, our VICEROY Cyber Kids campers took their skills to the next level! Our older campers explored Python programming, creating random number generators and digital dice while learning how code can power interactive projects.

They also got a chance to experiment with AI before moving on to the activity everyone had been waiting for—Cutebots! Using radio communication, campers programmed and controlled their robots, learning how to navigate tracks, follow lines and tackle new challenges.

Needless to say, Day 3 was a hit. 😎

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Kae Farrar

The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences is proud to highlight Kae Farrar, Administrative Assistant to the Dean.

Kae plays an essential role in supporting the daily operations of SCCS by managing schedules, coordinating communications, assisting faculty with administrative processes, and helping ensure the Dean's Office runs smoothly. She also supports a variety of SCCS initiatives and events, including the AIRE Conference, Employer Breakfast, campus visits, and special guest tours of Augusta University's Riverfront Campus.

Through her attention to detail and commitment to service, Kae helps create a positive and welcoming experience for faculty, staff, students, and visitors alike.

Outside of work, Kae enjoys staying active, spending time with friends, rollerskating, and exploring her passion for anime.
