“The best part has been seeing girls’ faces light up when learning new concepts — ‘lightbulb’ moments — and also to see the creativity and support that our great facilitator volunteers apply to helping the girls.”

Congratulations to our Girls Who Code technical lead, Julianna Rodriguez! She was recently named Augusta University’s Volunteer of the Year, our university’s highest volunteerism honor! 🥳 Learn more about Julianna and our Girls Who Code club:

Starting today, if you're planning to be on campus, don't forget to bring a mask or face covering with you and wear it! All faculty, staff, students and visitors will be required to wear a face covering while inside campus buildings/facilities where social distancing may not always be possible. Face coverings are not required in one's dorm or suite, when alone in an enclosed office or study room, or in campus outdoor settings where social distancing requirements can be achieved.

Wearing a mask on campus makes AU a safer place for ALL of JagNation and puts our university's values of compassion and integrity in action. For more information on this requirement as well as other aspects of our campus reopening, please visit augusta.edu/reopening.

Happy 2nd Birthday @gacybercenter! 🥳🥳 It seems like yesterday that we were celebrating this special facility we’re lucky to call our headquarters! What a fun couple of years it’s been since this building opened its doors a couple of summers ago: we’ve been lucky to host groups like @girlscoutshistoricga, the inaugural Southeastern Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition and our GenCyber camp. Our students have loved having their major-specific courses down here too! It has been a blast being here and we are so #prowld to be a resident partner!

We cant wait to see what the future holds as cybersecurity grows here in Augusta! Cheers to many more years of growth, innovation and collaboration! 🎉

Effective July 15, University System of Georgia institutions will require all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to wear an appropriate face covering while inside campus facilities/buildings where six feet social distancing may not always be possible. Face covering use will be in addition to and is not a substitute for social distancing. Face coverings are not required in one’s own dorm room or suite, when alone in an enclosed office or study room, or in campus outdoor settings where social distancing requirements are met.

Parsons sets course for new generation

When the Georgia Cyber Center was founded, the vision was for a student to attend class and walk upstairs to be an intern with a resident partner. One of our own, senior Hunter Thomas, is living out this vision thanks to an internship with Parsons! Check out his story, thanks to WFXG Fox 54’s Jacob Peklo.

Many of the interns at Parsons are easing into full-time work and hope to get careers in the field when they finish.

Happy Friday! Did you know we’ve added 15 new faculty to our school over the past year? In light of the continued growth we’re seeing in our school in our faculty and student body, we wanted to introduce you to our faculty who make up this incredible community of educators and researchers, which is how this series came to be. Next up in our series is Dr. Harley Eades.

Dr. Harley Eades joined the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences faculty directly from his PhD in 2014. Dr. Eades obtained his BS in applied mathematics and computer science from Millikin University in 2009, followed by his MS in theoretical computer science in 2013 from the University of Iowa and his PhD in theoretical computer science in 2014 from the University of Iowa. His research is centered around the theory of programming languages, computational logic and category theory. Eades and School of Computer and Cyber Sciences faculty member Dr. Clément Aubert run the ForML Lab research group. The ForML Lab strives to advance the software development process by utilizing principles and techniques from logic, mathematics and interactive theorem. Dr. Eades is also our faculty sponsor for our chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), a national honor society dedicated to recognizing excellence in the computing and information disciplines.

Dr. Eades has recently been promoted to an Associate Professor, starting this fall! 🥳Congratulations Dr. Eades, thank you for service and dedication to our students!

What were YOU doing on this day last year? For 36 high school students who were accepted into our GenCyber program, they began building their PiBorg robots that they would race later that week! 🤖 We’re bummed we can’t be participating in camp fun like this for this summer (thanks a lot COVID-19), however we’re eagerly awaiting the chance to do this next summer for GenCyber 2021! 🤩

If you’re a former camper reading this, what was one of your favorite memories of camp? We would love to hear from you in the comments!

Stay tuned for more info to come as next summer approaches! 💫

On this day in 2017, President Keel officially announced the founding of the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences! 🥳 This announcement allowed for the computer science and information technology undergraduate degree programs to move from the Hull College of Business to their own academic home in the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, benefitting more than 300 students. Our student body has grown tremendously since it’s first semester and we believe the best is yet to come for our students, faculty and staff!

We believe this investment is putting us on the right path to achieve our school’s vision of becoming a national leader in cybersecurity education. We are so grateful for this groundbreaking investment as we look to advance the future of these industries with high-engagement, state-of-the-art education and research!

Congratulations to one of our own, Karen Ribble! 🎉 Karen will be recognized later this year with the National Cyberwatch Center's award for Instruction Innovation for her work with developing the Girl Scouts of the USA's first national STEM challenge. 👩‍💻 We loved hosting troops from Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia last fall for the inaugural Girl Scouts Cyber Challenge at the Georgia Cyber Center! As the National CyberWatch Center mentioned in a statement, "This program is a smart choice for university communities to introduce more girls to the STEM and Cybersecurity fields and gives them a glimpse of a 'real-world' experience in a facility designed for teamwork." 👏 Congratuations Karen!
