Congratulations to Dr. Rob Bledsoe!

Dr. Bledsoe presented “Everyday Aggression in Voluntary Relationships: A Scoping Review” with his colleagues Deborah Richardson, Madison Quinn, Tommi Fuller, Alex Chriswell, and Erin Prentiss at the International Society for Research on Aggression’s annual meeting, held in Ontario in July.

EWL Student Spotlight!

Our Student Spotlight this week is Summer Hodgins. Summer is a senior English major with a concentration in creative writing and minor in history.

What’s the best thing about EWL?

“The passion surrounding the arts and the strong sense of community has been one of the highlights about my time at AU. The teachers and professors really talk to you like a friend and make you feel seen as a student.”

What has been your favorite course?
“My favorite course was probably Fiction Workshop. I loved talking about my work and getting the feedback to improve it.”

Do you have any advice for fellow or future EWL students?
“Don’t rush! Take your time and enjoy what you’re taking in.”

What are your plans after AU?
“After AU, I would like to go to graduate school or pursue a career in critiquing literature or films.”

If you’re majoring, minoring, or earning a certificate in EWL, stop by the EWL office (Allgood Hall E227) from 12-2pm for pizza, drinks, and the chance to meet new peers. We host the Majors and Minors Mingle on the last Friday of the month.

Dr. Kays had a busy summer!

He presented a paper, “”Beyond Detection: Bernard Stiegler’s Authentic Thinking as a Framework for Grading in the Age of AI,” at the national Grading Reform Conference in June. Also in June, Dr. Kays presented research from his current book project at the International Association of Comparative Fascist Studies Conference, held in Portugal. Finally, Dr. Kays also began Elon University’s three-year research seminar on “Rethinking Engaged Learning in the Age of GenAI.”

Congratulations to recent English Literature graduate Angela Maskey!

Her article, “The Shakespeare Authorship Controversy: A Student’s Perspective,” was recently published in The Shakespeare Oxford Newsletter’s Spring 2026 issue. Angela drafted the article in ENGL 3681 Advanced Style and Editing under the mentorship of Dr. Jun Zhao.
