In this week’s story, “Emotional Labor, Postnatal Writerly Identity: Postpartum Depression and the Writing Center,” we listen to the stories of those with postpartum depression and the support writing centers can provide. From fostering a better understanding of how PPD affects mothers to creating practices and environments that support them, this article offers a wide range of ideas to better welcome both parents and mothers experiencing PPD.

⭐️Course Spotlight: SPAN 3610(Business Spanish)

The oral exam in this class consists of a mock job interview with the professor (Dr. Carly Carver) and two other panelists serving as the “hiring committee.” Students create a series of portfolios leading up to the mock interview in which they locate an existing ad in a Spanish-speaking country for a job they would apply for in the real world. They then research the business that houses the job, research the job position in detail, utilize an online platform called Globesmart to research the business culture of the target country and self-assess their cultural readiness to work in that country, and create a C.V or cover letter tailored to the job. They use this portfolio to prepare them for the job interview where they are asked a series of questions related to the job. This project was designed to provide students with hands-on experience preparing and executing one of the most likely tasks they will face during and after graduation.

"The mock interviews in Business Spanish were a positive experience, for the students as well as for us as professors. It's great to provide our students the opportunity to practice as they are about to enter the work force. For me, it's rewarding to see how far they have come during their time with us in EWL." - Dr. Chris Botero

“These types of projects are invaluable because they prepare our students for the real world. It was an honor to participate in the mock interview process and witness their professional growth.” - Dr. Giada Biasetti.
