Augusta University Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship

Augusta University Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship CURS supports faculty-led research and scholarly activity with undergraduates at Augusta University in a variety of ways. At Augusta University (formerly Georgia Regents University) we believe in providing undergraduates the opportunity to build close working relationships with faculty and peers.

Today's competitive job market is forcing dramatic changes in higher education. Students aren't simply being asked to memorize pages of lecture notes. Instead, undergraduates are being challenged to become active contributors to the development and dissemination of new knowledge in their field of study. Augusta University is working to become an institution of choice for students who want to perform cutting-edge research and do real scholarly or creative work as undergraduates. The Center for Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (CURS) was created to encourage this new learning paradigm. We are working to develop programs that engage our students in faculty-led research and creative work that can begin when students arrive on campus as freshmen and continue through graduation. CURS had sponsored a number of initiatives which are intended to promote faculty-student research and scholarship in all disciplines across campus. These initiatives include: CURS Brown Bag Series: For the past few years CURS has hosted the Brown Bag Series which generally takes place on Friday afternoons from 1:00 - 2:00pm in the JSAC Ballroom. Typically, two students present their scholarly work after a pizza lunch is served. Attendance is usually between 60 and 90 students, faculty and staff. CURS Grants: Many of the undergraduate projects require some financial support for supplies or travel. The CURS Grants program was created to fill this need. CURS works closely with faculty to ensure programs are developed that meet the needs of the faculty, our students and the University. The CURS Advisory Committee is key to our recent success. Our representatives, from a wide range of departments on campus, encourage both the students and faculty to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the process of undergraduate scholarship and to work with CURS to help create an even more effective teaching and learning environment.

Introducing our 2nd Ambassador: Anish Sangari!!!

Hello! My name is Anish Sangari and I am proud to be a part of the graduating class of 2021. I am originally from Sunnyvale, California and currently a Cell and Molecular Biology major at Augusta University. I am interested in pursuing medicine post graduation hopefully here at the Medical College of Georgia. I am also part of the Table Tennis club on campus and in the city. My favorite part of research is the problem solving aspect where I get to apply the knowledge I learned in the classroom to real-world problems. Research has taught me to persevere in times of hardship and never to give up. I have always found that the longer I spend on a strenuous, exhausting research task, the more satisfying it feels to solve the problem and overcome the hurdle. I look forward to meeting everyone interested in research. Go Jags!

Introducing our 1st Ambassador: Hisham Kashif!!!

”My name is Hisham Kashif and I am from Marietta, Georgia. As a sophomore majoring in cell and molecular biology, I have spent the majority of my time at Augusta volunteering at the hospital as an inpatient liaison and working with other students through the Student Health and Advisory Council. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies with friends, working out, and fencing in the Augusta University Fencing Club that was founded by my friends and me. I plan on attending the Medical School of Georgia in the future. Research has educated me on the importance of learning from mistakes, understanding how to problem solve, and developing critical thinking skills in a way that can be applied to a variety of situations, not just in classrooms.”

The College Success Manual is a manual for undergraduate students that will help them graduate from college in a timely manner. The manual includes a four step process: goal setting, mapping out courses, personal finance, and building a network. Each of the processes can ensure a successful college career for each student. The manual is short, to the point, and customizable to each student's needs.
Working hard this summer. I'll be here all day! 🤷🏽‍♀️😅
