On this day, 108 years ago, the 22 Founders of Delta Sigma Theta boldly marched into American history by participating in the Women's Suffrage Parade of 1913. Thousands of women took to the streets of Washington, D.C. on March 3, 1913, one day before Woodrow Wilson's inauguration, to advocate for women's right to vote.

In this heroic debut, the Founders of Delta Sigma Theta marched alongside white suffragists while knowing that the battle to the ballot was not over for Black women. Yet and still, they bravely traveled down Pennsylvania Avenue just months after forming our beloved Sorority.

Today, we pay homage to our Founders' fortitude and the trail they blazed for Black women in politics.

National Blood Donor Month has been observed in January since 1970 with the goal of increasing blood and platelet donations during the winter – one of the most difficult times of year to collect enough blood products to meet patient needs. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. Whether a patient receives whole blood, red cells, platelets or plasma, this lifesaving care starts with one person making a generous donation. During the winter months, inclement weather often results in cancelled blood drives, and seasonal illnesses like the flu may cause some donors to become temporarily unable to donate. The Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. urges the community to become active in learning more about how supporting blood donation efforts can save lives. #SRDST

Hope all of my healthcare Sorors have received their vacine
Hello! My name is Dr. Indria Gillespie. I am the founder of Angels In Disguise, nonprofit organization aimed at creating awareness about the bone marrow registry in the Black community. As a Black female and 2-time bone marrow donor to 2 unrelated recipients this health disparity in the Black community became a passion of mine. Many do not know that over 90% of bone marrow matches occur within the same ethnicity. Thus, Blacks match with Blacks. Also, Blacks has a match rate of 23%, which is the lowest of any ethnicity. We must do something. Only we can save ourselves! I am facilitating focus groups online with Black college students between the ages of 18-45 to find out what information they would want in curriculum that would allow them to make an "informed" decision about joining the bone marrow registry. The data collected will be used to develop curriculum to be embedded in Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Social Justice, and health sciences courses at colleges in the Atlanta metro area as a pilot program. If successful, the curriculum would be embedded at all 101 HBCUs and other colleges with high Black populations. I need your help! I need 70 Black students between the ages of 18-45 that attend college in the Atlanta or Augusta areas to attend 1 of 7 planned online focus groups. The online focus group is 2 hours long. We will give each participant a $100 Visa gift card if they attend the entire online focus group. I have attached a flier that has more information and the dates and times of each focus group. Go to www.angels-in-disguise.org/savelives for more information and to register!!! This project is being funded by Be The Match bone marrow registry. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you! Dr. Indria Gillespie Angels In Disguise www.angels-in-disguise.org
