On Tuesday evening, Jay Ivey and Andrew Voelker presented the first recital in the UGA Faculty Artist Series, Songs of the Wanderer, featuring song cycles by Jacques Ibert, Gerald Finzi and Gustav Mahler, and ending with a moving rendition of “The Impossible Dream” from Man of La Mancha. Students, faculty, and guests gathered in the lobby afterwards for a delicious reception!

Thank you, Dr. Ivey and Dr. Voelker, for your artistry and your vulnerability, and here’s to an amazing year ahead of recitals!

This summer, doctoral student Amanda Ferreira Faasen sang her first Carmen with Chicago Summer Opera . Amanda previously appeared in the lead role of F***y Price in UGA’s production of Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park in spring 2026. Félicitations, Amanda!

Last Friday the voice area rang in the new school year with a beautiful recital showcasing our graduate cohort (assisted by amazing collaborative pianist Elena Minko!) and introductions and announcements from the faculty. Here’s to a great semester!

Dr. Slovin is representing UGA at the National Conference this weekend! She shared a presentation that she developed with Dr. Emily Siar of Boston Conservatory, called “Supporting Students with Voice Impairments in the Studio.” Best of all - her own undergraduate voice teacher and voice therapist were in the audience!

Today voice area students Alex Gilliam, Susanna Poston and Zaria Doss had the opportunity to work with jazz vocalist Ilona Knopfler, who also performed with IGA jazz professor James Weidman and student musicians at the botanical gardens last night.
