Thank you to everyone who attended the 2026 Eric Williams Memorial Lecture (EWML) featuring acclaimed author Marlon James. His reading and reflections reminded us of the power and possibilities of art, imagination, and community.

We would also like to express our appreciation to all the co-sponsors whose partnership and support allowed us to host this year’s EWML: Austin Arts, Culture, Music, & Entertainment (AACME), the Black Diaspora Archive, the Eric Williams Memorial Collection Research Library, Archives & Museum (EWMC), the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center, the Michener Center for Writers, the New Writers Project, the LLILAS Caribbean Studies Initiative, and the Texas Book Festival.

Thank you for joining us and contributing to an evening of learning, reflection, and imagining alternative futures together. 📸: SWNG Productions

Today is the final day of 40 Hours for the Forty Acres! The campaign ends tonight at 10:00 p.m., and we’re so grateful to everyone who has already contributed to support the Black Studies Collective. If you haven't considered contributing yet, there's still time.

We’re raising funds to provide Experiential Learning opportunities within the Black Studies Collective (AADS, AGBS, IUPRA and Warfield Center) that connect our students’ classroom experiences to the real world—building skills that prepare them for internships, careers, and life beyond the Forty Acres.
