TOMORROW is the final day to apply for our October 2026 competition. Enter to sing for our elite panel of judges and a chance to win our grand prize of $10,000.

Magdalena Kuźma won the Grand Prize at our 2022 competition.

“Participating in the 2022 Butler Competition Finals was an incredible experience. Unlike many competitions, it was a true learning opportunity. I especially look back fondly on my masterclass with Nino Sanikidze. I sang “Son” from Op. 38 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, and I still apply what I learned to my Russian art song singing today.”

We are honored to inaugurate the Arno Bohm Prize at this year’s competition. Arno was the husband of Darlene Wiley, founder of this competition and professor of voice at UT for 41 years.

Arno was a dedicated music lover, and stalwart supporter of his wife’s musical career. His passing in 2024 was a great loss to many. From Tamar Sanikidze, director of BOIC- “Over the years, one of the most comforting and familiar sights at Butler Opera Center and Butler School of Music performances was seeing Arno and Darlene sitting together in the audience, supporting our students, and celebrating their shared love of the arts.”

The recipient of the Arno Bohm Prize will receive $1,500, and honor the legacy our dear friend.

Alexis Seminario took home our Grand Prize of $10,000 at our 2025 competition.

“My BOIC experience was a truly life changing one and I do not say that lightly. I am a singer who is financially independent and this win was deeply important to me for a multitude of reasons one of them being that it offset a lot of costs for this year that come with being a young artist in this career. The panel, which included fearless leader Tamar and the pianists are world class, supportive and kind. Everyone in that building was incredibly encouraging and wanted everyone to feel seen and heard. I can’t say enough good about it. APPLY!”
