Dust often hinders solar panel performance, but a UTEP - The University of Texas at El Paso study finds that solar panels in the Southwest require significantly less cleaning than those in other desert climates. From a “living laboratory” in the Chihuahuan Desert, UTEP researchers are helping position West Texas as a renewable energy powerhouse.

A new study by UTEP College of Science researchers found that solar panels in Alamogordo, New Mexico, lose only about 2-3% of their power output due to dust buildup — a fraction of the losses reported at similar desert sites in the Middle East, Iran and China. ⚡🔋

The findings reveal insight into the economics of solar energy development in parts of the Chihuahuan Desert. ☀️

New research from UT Southwestern Medical Center is helping to unlock the mechanics of Ovarian Cancer. Researchers found that cancer cells use stress hormone signaling to reshape their environment, drawing in immune-suppressing cells that shut down the immune system’s ability to attack the cancer. The finding opens up the prospect of more effective treatments through a combination of both chemotherapy and immunotherapy. UTSW has more:
