We 💜💜💜 Dolly!

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Association’s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALA’s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

“I’ve always related to that book because I’m the little engine that did!” she said.

ACC Drama is holding auditions for our upcoming Fall 2026 production of:

Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors
By Gordon Greenberg & Steve Rosen
Director: Jamie Rogers

Auditions are open to all ACC students and the community. You do not need to be an ACC student to audition.

Roles are uncompensated.

Casting a diverse ensemble of 5. Character Descriptions are on audition form.

Taped submissions will be accepted until 10 PM CST on Sunday, August 30th. Please prepare a 1 ½ -2 minute contemporary comedic monologue. Please include a resume/headshot.

Callbacks will be in person at 7 PM on TUESDAY, September 1st at ACC Highland Campus Building 2000 Black Box. Callback notifications will be sent no later than Monday, August 31st.


SYNOPSIS

Ever wondered what would happen if you took Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire tale and put it into a blender with Mel Brooks, Monty Python, and The 39 Steps? That’s just what happens in this lightning-fast, laugh-out-loud, 90-minute, gender-bending romp. When her sister Mina falls ill with a mysterious disease of the blood, Lucy Westfeldt and her fiancé, Jonathan Harker, enlist the help of famed female vampire hunter Doctor Jean Van Helsing. Their hunt for the dangerous and sexy Count Dracula abounds with clever wordplay and quick-change antics. Five actors play over a dozen roles in this bloodcurdlingly hilarious send-up of the literary classic. “
