At TEDxUTAustin this spring, UT junior and Dulce Custom Cakes founder Reese Saliceti made the case that perfectionism is the enemy of progress and that failure is rarely as costly as we think.

She started her custom cake business as a teenager. The lesson that stuck: the willingness to try matters more than the outcome.

"Cakes are meant to be cut. They're meant to be a little bit messy. And so are we."

Consumers don't just dislike feeling watched. It actively stops them from buying.

New research from Texas McCombs professor Wayne Hoyer and a team of researchers surveyed 1,800 participants and confirmed what many have suspected: personalized ads nearly doubled levels of feeling surveilled, and that discomfort has a direct and measurable impact on willingness to buy: https://news.mccombs.utexas.edu/research/digital-targeting-creeps-out-customers/

Last fall, 40 juniors and seniors from across UT Austin came together as the inaugural cohort of the Texas Trailblazers: Gay Gaddis Leadership Program.

An initiative of the Center for Leadership and Ethics at McCombs, the program brings together students from every discipline on campus for 14 weeks of leadership training, small-group speaker conversations, and capstone projects that serve the University and broader community.

In their first year, the cohort launched a podcast highlighting outstanding UT student leaders, reimagined a core McCombs introductory course, developed a road map to revive Longhorn traditions, and built the internal structure for Trailblazers to grow and sustain itself for years to come.

With applications growing 66% for the second cohort, the program's momentum is clear. The second cohort will be announced at an event on April 28, and we can't wait to see what they accomplish 🤘 https://news.mccombs.utexas.edu/news/blazing-trails/

Excessive public information on bond trading and short-term lending can trigger risky investments

At Texas McCombs, being human-centered is more than a brand; it is how the community operates every day.

Rob Richardson, SHRM-CP, Director of Human Resources, works closely with staff, faculty, and university partners to support the people who power the school every day. His role centers on aligning staffing strategies and development programs with McCombs’ academic, research, and student success priorities. One of his key initiatives is the Rising Leaders Program, a yearlong, cohort-based experience designed to help staff grow as leaders. The program focuses on topics like strategic planning, navigating conflict, and building trust, while creating opportunities for participants to learn from one another and strengthen collaboration across the school.

Richardson also focuses on strengthening community across the school. Through initiatives like the Staff Advisory Council and schoolwide events, his team fosters meaningful connections while supporting employees at every stage of their experience at McCombs, from onboarding through ongoing development and well-being.
