With over 50 faculty and staff, and more than 150 courses each semester, the Department of Theatre and Dance is one of the largest theatre and dance departments in the United States. Our academic programs encompass various areas, including: acting; directing; dance; design; theatre for young audiences (dtyc); theatre history, performance studies, dramaturgy, literature and criticism (ppp); playwriting; theatre education; and theatre technology (costume, lighting, scene, and stage management). The department is dedicated to balancing high–quality production and performance work with rigorous academic study. The development of new work, scholarly articles, innovative design and a varied dance and theatre repertory is a high priority.

Associate Professor of Practice of Acting Christin Davis has been selected for the 2026 Dads’ Association Centennial Teaching Fellowship!

The program recognizes faculty members primarily engaged in freshman instruction. In 2023, Davis spearheaded a new training for first-year B.F.A. in Acting students to address skills in communication and mental health. These tools help students navigate challenges in acting training and beyond. Student feedback shows a great deal of appreciation for her deep care and work, in and out of the classroom.
