Founded on July 7, 1965, SFSC has evolved into a mid-sized college, annually serving more than 20,000 residents of DeSoto, Hardee, and Highlands counties. SFSC has matured into a responsive institution of higher learning, providing quality academic programs, selected bachelor’s and master’s degree programs through partnerships with nine public and private universities and colleges, specialized occupational and technical training, workforce development, continuing and adult education, community services, cultural experiences, collegiate athletics, informational services, off-campus housing, and programs that enrich the quality of community life.

SFSC and the University of South Florida () announced the renewal of their partnership through the Fuse guaranteed admissions program. SFSC was one of nine Florida College System (FCS) institutions present at USF in Tampa to add their signatures to the renewal contract on Monday, Sept. 21.

Entering its 10th year, Fuse provides a seamless and timely degree path for students to transfer to USF. Students are guaranteed admission into specific majors at USF, provided they meet certain criteria.

In celebration of World Teachers' Day, we want to honor the many teachers who have earned their Bachelor of Science in Elementary Teacher Education (BSETE) from SFSC and have gone on to pursue a career in the life-changing field of teaching. 🍎

SFSC STUDENTS: You can apply to be the student speaker for the December Commencement on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2026.

Starting Friday, Oct. 2, you can get information on how to apply at the DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, and Lake Placid campus locations and at southflorida.edu/graduation.

A draft of your completed speech is due on Friday, Oct. 16 to [email protected] so the Selection Committee can review it.

If you are selected, you can add Commencement Speaker to your resume and know that you inspired a whole auditorium full of people, including your fellow graduates.
