Come see a great show this Thursday - Broadway in Bainbridge!

Join ABAC Bainbridge for the first event in the 2019-2020 Carter Arts & Lecture Series season! Neil Berg’s widely acclaimed 100 Years of Broadway recreates the greatest moments from the finest shows of the century featuring the actual stars of shows such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, CATS, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Jekyll & Hyde. These amazing performers light up the stage with songs from the hit shows in which they starred. Neil Berg presents brilliantly revived arrangements of Broadway classics as well as thrilling numbers from Broadway’s newest hit shows.

The show will be this Thursday (the 19th) at 6 p.m. at The Kirbo Center. Tickets can be purchased at purplepass.com or at the door. Entry for college students is free. We hope to see you there!

Congratulations! Your hard work and academic achievement have qualified you for membership in the Omega Delta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Your dedication to scholarly success now gives you access to transfer scholarships, scholarships awarded through Phi Theta Kappa, help with transfer planning, and a community of like-minded scholars who will offer you a lifetime of networking opportunities through friendships and alumni associations. We offer leadership training and opportunities to serve on committees and as an officer. We are active in the community too, organizing annual academic events for the ABAC community, volunteering locally, and networking with other Phi Theta Kappa chapters across the state and region. Your one-time membership fee of $85 is all it takes to join. You pay this when you accept membership, and that's it — there are no annual dues, and you never have to renew your membership. What does it mean to be in Phi Theta Kappa?
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, also ΦΘΚ or sometimes PTK, is the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs, particularly state colleges and community colleges. ... The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students.

What GPA do you need to stay in Phi Theta Kappa?
You are expected to have a 3.5 GPA when you apply for membership. However, after joining Phi Theta Kappa you are expected to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

Is Phi Theta Kappa a sorority?
Phi Theta Kappa is not a fraternity or sorority. It is an honor society. Phi Theta Kappa is the only internationally acclaimed honor society serving institutions that offer associate degree programs.

How do you become a member of Phi Theta Kappa? To be eligible for membership:
1. You must be enrolled in an accredited institution offering an associate degree program.
2. You must have completed at least 12 hours of coursework that may be applied to an associate degree (part-time students may be eligible).*
3. You must generally have a grade point average of 3.5.
4. You must receive an invitation to membership from the chapter at the college where presently enrolled.
5. To find out if you are eligible for Phi Theta Kappa membership, contact your local chapter advisor.
* Part-time students are usually eligible for membership if they have accumulated the total number of hours used by the college to designate full-time status (usually 12 hours on a semester system).
How long are you a member of Phi Theta Kappa?
Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest and largest honor society, serving students at a two-year college. As long as the courses they are taking could be applied to an associate degree and they meet the requirements of membership in your chapter, they are eligible for membership in Phi Theta Kappa.

What are the benefits of Phi Theta Kappa?
Benefits include recognition during college induction ceremony, recognition by wearing Phi Theta Kappa Commencement Regalia during college graduation (if you choose to purchase these items), opportunity to meet JRS administrators, access to scholarships, free enrollment in CollegeFish.org, a transfer and college.

Goals of ∑K∆ at ABAC:
• To recognize and reward outstanding achievement in the liberal arts
• To provide cultural stimulation and promote interest in the humanities
• To promote good professional interaction among members
• To exhibit high standards of academic achievement

Some of the advantages of membership include life-long recognition of academic excellence as members may list this organization on their vitae or résumé, eligibility for scholarships sponsored by the national organization, information about professional and educational choices in the humanities, and interactions with other students and faculty members both locally and nationally who share a similar interest in the arts. The cost of membership is a one-time $60 fee. ($30 goes to SKD national dues and $30 stays at ABAC, of which $10 pays for SKD Graduation Honor cords). If you would like to know SKD students interested in language and the arts, please complete this form and return it with your check (written payable to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College) to Dr. LaFace in Cypress Office #240 by Monday, October 3, 2019.
