Bakersfield College Founded in 1913. As one of the oldest operating community colleges in the nation, our mission is to transform education & lives in Kern County.šŸŽ“
(843)

One of the distinguishing features of Bakersfield College is its rich history, accompanied by strong community roots. Generations of families have made Bakersfield College their preferred higher education choice. In response to the changing demographics of the surrounding community, the college reflects the vibrant cultural diversity that is increasing throughout California. While Bakersfield College has a long and rich history of excellence in serving a large and diverse student body, continuing to meet the educational needs of our rapidly increasing minority community presents a significant challenge in the face of rapidly increasing fixed costs. Bakersfield College’s student body is increasingly low-income, first-generation college-going, minority and academically underprepared. In response to this challenge, faculty, staff, administration and students have cooperated to leverage alternative sources of funding, such as Hispanic Serving Institution federal grants, to support innovative educational programming and integrated student learning opportunities.

Just before 9:11 a.m. this morning, flags across Bakersfield College were lowered to half-staff in remembrance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we pause to honor the victims, first responders, service members, families and communities forever changed by that day.

For many of our students, September 11 is a chapter in history rather than a lived memory. As a college community, we carry forward its lessons of courage, service and unity.

Today, Bakersfield College remembers.

We gathered at the Renegade Event Center this week to welcome Dr. Stacy Pfluger as Bakersfield College’s 12th president.Ā

Community leaders, trustees, and campus staff came out to celebrate, with music from the BC Jazz ensemble and Chamber Singers, plus a G1 robot appearance from our Industrial Automation program.

Then Dr. Pfluger turned the evening toward students. She announced the return of the President’s Scholars program and welcomed this year’s recipients to the stage.

Congratulations, President Pfluger, and congratulations to our 2026-27 President’s Scholars.

The 100th season of Renegade football just kicked off at home. šŸ’ÆšŸˆ

Memorial Stadium came to life for opening night as Bakersfield College beat Santa Ana 40-14. Tailgates gathered early and alumni returned for the night. The BC Archives shared memorabilia going back generations, and we welcomed our newest employees to campus, a reminder that the college keeps growing alongside its traditions.

A hundred seasons in, and the whole town still shows up.

See the full schedule and grab tickets at GoGades.com. Come be part of Season 100.
