A panel of four experts will feature in this month’s Innovations in To***co Control lecture series on “How To***co Product Standards Can Revolutionize Public Health Policymaking.” Join the lecture and discussion on Zoom on October 21 at 9 a.m.

To***co product standards are rules for how to***co products can be made. Examples include limiting ni****ne levels, restricting flavors, and prohibiting specific ingredients. Product standards offer a powerful way to reduce the addictiveness, appeal, and harm of to***co products—before a product even reaches consumers.

To***co Control included our study on the presence of flavor chemicals in Velo ni****ne pouches purchased in Pakistan in a recent edition. Our work with Portland State University showed a variety of flavor chemicals as well as varying amounts of ni****ne that sometimes was lower than the advertised level. Since studies have shown flavors can increase positive perceptions of products, regulation of flavor chemicals in oral ni****ne pouches should be considered in Pakistan. https://buff.ly/4weXcNU

The Ascend: Leadership Development for the Future of To***co Control cohort held its in-person workshop in Bangkok earlier this year. Future to***co control leaders participated in exercises designed to build their skills, including small group discussions between workshop participants and guest speakers who shared insights and experience from their careers devoted to improving health and ending to***co-caused death and disease.

A paper analyzing e-cigarette packaging found in Indonesia was published by To***co Control. Assistant scientist Jenny Brown and senior research program coordinator Hannah Barker co-led the paper, which showed the widespread use of marketing elements that appeal to youth in the 825 products purchased in three cities in 2022. https://buff.ly/MXKBopE
