Congratulations to Som Chatterjee, PhD, on receiving a five-year, $3.6 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to advance research on antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus.

Building on previous discoveries from the Chatterjee lab, this research will further explore how penicillin-binding protein 4 (PBP4) contributes to antibiotic resistance and the bacterium's ability to cause serious infections. The findings could pave the way for new treatment strategies and improve outcomes for patients worldwide.

What a sweet way to kick off the school year 🥹🍦🍧Today we welcomed our UMSOD community to our annual Ice Cream Social, where they had the opportunity to meet Interim Dean Dr. Gary Warburton and celebrate the start of a new academic year!

Earlier this month, Dr. John Caccamese was appointed Interim Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at UMSOD, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

A member of the UMSOD community since 2004, Dr. Caccamese is an internationally recognized expert in cleft lip and palate care and has served as Professor and Vice Chair of OMFS for the past 14 years.

In his new role, he will oversee departmental and clinical operations, including the expansion of UMSOD's Ambulatory Surgery Center and Emergency Dental Services Clinic.

Today we welcomed international clinicians and representatives from Taiwan, alongside X-Nav and Hi Clearance to UMSOD for our Clinical Innovation & Campus Visit! ✈🌟

Guests met Interim Dean Dr. Gary Warburton, attended presentations from residents and faculty, and toured the School of Dentistry and the dental museum.

We're proud to celebrate Dr. Vineet Dhar, recipient of a Wilson H. Elkins Academic Transformation Professorship for FY 2027!

The professorship supports innovative projects that advance teaching, learning, and academic excellence across the University System of Maryland.

Dr. Dhar's project, Bloom AI, will explore new approaches to teaching and assessing higher-order thinking in health professions education.
