Congratulations to Bloomberg Distinguished Professor Younan Xia on his election to the National Academy of Medicine, one of the highest honors in health and medicine. 🎉

A faculty member in Johns Hopkins Materials Science and Engineering and Johns Hopkins Biomedical Engineering, Xia focuses on the design, synthesis, and use of nanomaterials for applications in medicine, electronics, and energy conversion.

He designs nanomaterials that help diagnose and treat cancer, deliver drugs to targeted sites, manage wounds, and repair and regenerate tissue.

Among his inventions are silver nanowires used to make flexible, transparent, and conductive coatings in touchscreen displays, flexible electronics, and photovoltaics, which use semiconductors to convert sunlight into electricity.

Five new Siebel Scholars will join a network of more than 1,800 other scientists and 90 previously named at Johns Hopkins. The five scholars have been newly named to the 2027 class, among 67 other doctoral students at graduate schools across the U.S.

Their work at Johns Hopkins spans fields in nanoparticle design, cancer detection, and immune cell behavior and represents some of the world’s most innovative solutions to challenging problems in business, computer science and bioengineering.
