"Coming from a smaller town, I was hesitant to consider schools in a larger city. After living in Baltimore for nearly eight months, I think it’s safe to say I’ve been charmed by Charm City," said student Ahnyx M., ’29.

First-year mechanical engineering students created 25 playable arcade games, then invited the public to give them a try on campus. 🕹️

This project was the the culmination of a semester-long first-year course that introduces students to fundamental concepts of engineering.

"Students were required to apply the knowledge they acquired this semester in areas such as microcontrollers, motors, and sensors to their projects," said teaching professor and lead instructor Steven Marra.

This Hopkins alum’s work is all play. Zoe Bell, A&S '09, is the Executive Producer of Games at The New York Times! 📱

Zoe majored in Writing Seminars as a Hopkins undergraduate, then started her career in game production at Zynga, which is the company responsible for Facebook games FarmVille and FrontierVille.

Working in games for The New York Times, she’s seen milestones like the acquisition of Wordle and the launch of Connections. She works with a committee to decide which game ideas should get prototypes, and which of those should go out to the public for beta testing.

“It's great to make something that millions of people enjoy. I find that very rewarding," she said.

"Hopkins is a place worth staying no matter what you study because it will support you to the fullest in every field," said Riley S., ’28.

Riley applied to Hopkins as a pre-med student who wanted to continue studying creative writing. When his first year included classes taught by esteemed faculty, a humanities research internship, and a $3,500 fellowship award to study Hopkins history, he decided to go all in on our creative writing program, Writing Seminars.
