Ready to turn your interest in healthcare into a career?

UMBC’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is a 13.5-month, full-time professional certificate program that combines classroom education, hands-on scanning skills and clinical experience.

Choose from three specialty tracks: Abdomen-Extended/OB-GYN, Cardiac or Vascular Sonography. The CAAHEP-accredited program prepares students to pursue national credentialing exams and careers as diagnostic medical sonographers.

The July 2027 cohort application opens in October 2026, with an application deadline of November 30, 2026.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how much AI has become part of my everyday life. I use it, I appreciate what it can do, and I’m constantly amazed by how quickly it can help me get things done. But I also find myself wondering if, in all this convenience, we're slowly giving away something pretty valuable. Our ability to think, create, and express ourselves in ways that are uniquely ours.

I've always loved the beauty of human expression. The creativity, the individuality, and yes, even the imperfections that give our words and ideas character. I don't want us to lose that.

In this episode of UMBC Mic'd Up, I share some thoughts on how we can embrace AI without becoming overly dependent on it. We'll explore the importance of keeping our critical thinking skills sharp, using AI with intention, and making sure our own voices remain at the center of what we create.

Because AI can certainly help us do the work, but it shouldn't do all the thinking for us.

Group work. Again?!

But there’s a reason group work keeps showing up in the curriculum.
