Students,

Underclassmen who want to learn more about the functional areas of marketing —from digital analytics to PR/social media marketing—and upperclassmen seeking to make contacts for internships and jobs should consider attending the Baltimore AMA’s 27th Annual Student Job Search Workshop! This event, described by past attendees as “personal” and “insightful”, allows students to talk with execs from most major Baltimore firms (Black & Decker, T.Rowe Price, McCormick, Ravens) and several ad agencies (Weber Shandwick, Havas, Oath) in small group breakout sessions where the focus is on Q&A.

This is not a job fair with lines at employer tables; it’s an event whose focus is on learning about this field through one-on-one interaction with dynamic marketers and making contacts! The registration link is below. The cost to attend is $25 and this includes snacks/beverages (and helps the AMA cover event costs). Time: 1-4:30 PM Saturday April 6. Location: Loyola University Graduate Center, Timonium, MD. Sponsored by Loyola University. The registration deadline is April 1!

SMARTLOGIC

Marketing Intern

Baltimore, Maryland, United States · Marketing

Description

As our Marketing Intern you will be tasked with contributing to a variety of marketing projects, determined on a rolling basis. Projects will align to a combination of your background and interests and SmartLogic’s marketing project needs. Possible projects include: designing and testing ad campaigns; creating and editing multimedia content; writing blog content; business development research; data entry and CRM maintenance; networking and events planning.

You’ll report to Rose Burt (Content and Digital Marketing Manager).

Internship Structure

We will set project goals together: We know you don’t want to file papers all day. While there will be some grunt work, we also want this to be a meaningful learning opportunity for you. At the beginning of your internship, you will work with the CDMM to establish projects and goals for your internship.

Most of your work will be autonomous: We will check in regularly, but you will be responsible for self- managing your own work, to a large extent. If that doesn’t work for you, this internship isn’t a good fit.

Requirements

Excellent Writing Skills: Writing is a key component to this position. It is critical that you have excellent writing skills. We are a professional company that people hire for the quality of work we do and for our reputation, and the quality of our written marketing materials must reflect that.

Attention to Detail: Given that you will be working on content that will represent our company, it is critical that you have an attention to detail and that your work is free of errors. Further, all of our employees are expected to work autonomously and with minimal supervision.

Organized: SmartLogic maintains a highly organized office and work process using a number of tools including Trello. You will need to maintain a well-organized Trello board as well as keep any documents you create organized in our Google Drive hierarchy.

Weekly Meeting: Once a week you will need to contribute to a meeting with Rose (Content and Digital Marketing Manager) outlining completed and upcoming work.

Benefits

This position pays $15/hr. The expected workload is between 10 to 12 hours a week. Some work may be done remotely, by arrangement with the Content and Digital Marketing Manager. You will be expected to use your own laptop for this role; if you do not have access to a personal computer, we can lend you company hardware for the duration of the internship. You will be responsible for your own transportation to the office in Canton at least once a week.

Next Steps

Please submit a copy of your resume and a writing or other digital content sample. The writing sample should be fewer than 500 words and demonstrate your business/professional writing abilities.

Visit Baltimore Launches 2019 Diversity Apprenticeship Program

(Baltimore, MD) – Visit Baltimore, the official destination sales and marketing organization for Baltimore, today announced the launch of its second Diversity Apprenticeship Program cycle. In partnership with the Visit Baltimore Education & Training Foundation, Inc. and Destinations International, the program will grant one emerging or recent graduate unmatched on-the-job experience in the tourism and hospitality industry followed by guaranteed employment*.
In the program’s inaugural year, apprentice Deedra Mills completed the program and was hired as a Sales & Services Coordinator at the Baltimore Convention Center. “We were excited for the opportunity to bring Deedra on-board at the Center. The training and experience afforded by the Diversity Apprenticeship Program exposes the intern to a range of opportunities available in the industry. The program leaves them with comprehensive skill sets that can only serve as an asset to any employer,” said Peggy Daidakis, Executive Director Baltimore Convention Center. In her role, Mills provides on-site assistance and support to the Sales and Services Department in booking and production of events. Her duties include conducting facility tours and overseeing set-ups of exhibit halls and meeting rooms, allowing Mills to collaborate with Baltimore Convention Center clients and staff.
“Following Deedra’s success, we’re excited to kick off the second year of the Diversity Apprenticeship Program and help a worthy recent graduate get hands-on experience at Baltimore’s destination marketing organization as well as exposure to the tourism industry at large,” said Al Hutchinson, President & CEO at Visit Baltimore. “Tourism is one of the largest economic drivers in the City of Baltimore and we’re hopeful that this program, in partnership with the Visit Baltimore Education & Training Foundation, Inc., will continue to spread awareness about the great career opportunities available in our industry.”
As in its inaugural year, to successfully complete the program the apprentice must fulfill 600 hours of paid work, which includes shadowing across all of Visit Baltimore’s functional departments as well as relevant industry partners. The 2019 program will also follow a new model by allowing the selected apprentice to focus the majority of their time at Visit Baltimore in one of three tracks based on skills, experiences and interests: operations, marketing or sales.
While the program is open to anyone meeting eligibility requirements, it seeks to promote diversity. Priority applications will be accepted through December 2018 and the chosen apprentice will be offered a flexible start date after January 2019. To learn more about the program including eligibility requirements and application instructions, please visit the Diversity Apprenticeship Program section of the Visit Baltimore website.
*If a position cannot be offered at Visit Baltimore or a participating partner, SearchWide Global will assist in out-of-market placement.
