THZ Presents Mindful Mondays: Therapy Does Not Have to Be the Last Stop

Therapy does not have to begin after years of silently struggling or when everything finally feels like it is falling apart.

It can be a place to talk about grief that still feels heavy, stress that keeps building, boundaries you are learning to set, childhood experiences that continue to affect you, relationship patterns you want to understand, or the pressure of constantly being everything to everyone.

For Black women, finding support can feel complicated. Cost, time, access, trust, previous experiences with healthcare, and fear of being culturally misunderstood are real concerns. Research with Black women continues to show that feeling understood, respected, and culturally seen can influence whether therapy feels safe enough to continue.

The relationship with your therapist matters. You should be able to ask questions, discuss your goals, express disagreement, and talk about race, culture, family, faith, or other parts of your identity that shape your experience.

If the first therapist does not feel like the right fit, that does not mean therapy is not for you. Sometimes finding support requires finding the person with whom you can build trust and feel emotionally safe.

You do not have to prove that your pain is severe enough to deserve care. You do not have to wait for a crisis before asking for support.

This week, Tau Eta Zeta encourages you to think about what safety in therapy would look like for you.

What would make therapy feel safer, more supportive, and more culturally affirming for you?

Strong communities grow when we intentionally invest our time, knowledge, resources, and support where they can make a difference.

Mentoring a young professional, supporting a local entrepreneur, contributing to a scholarship, and sharing financial resources are meaningful ways to strengthen our collective future.

This Black Philanthropy Month, Tau Eta Zeta Chapter celebrates the power of community investment and our shared responsibility to advance economic justice.

When our communities thrive, future generations benefit.

What is one way you can invest in your community this month?
