JHU Pride Alumni Community

JHU Pride Alumni Community Research. World. Community. Excellence. Those are the words heard most when Hopkins was described by We are One JHU.

This page will serve as an extension of the sense of community we want to create for our LGBTQIA Alumni. It is about including, empowering, connecting, and celebrating what makes us Hopkins.

I’ve been receiving some powerful and stirring messages of reflection and response from many friends who just finished the series on Showtime, “Fellow Travelers.”

Many wept. More reflected on history and heartbreak. The two often go hand in hand.

Seeing how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to go, I’m honored to echo the craft and creation of the author of this beautiful love story. Thomas Mallon remains one of my favorite authors, for this work and his retelling of history and love through an unmatched love of history.

Simply stated, this book changed my life.

And this book affirmed a love story that seemed to mirror the places and people, some 60 years later. Washington, D.C., The State Department, The Evening Star Building, Capitol Hill, late night walks through Georgetown.

There is no grander stage in the world for a love that wasn’t supposed to be, and somehow endured. It’s in our collective longing we find belonging.

It was a dream to get to meet the creator of this life-changing love story, interview him, and echo his words to the world. Thank you, Thomas.
