A new photoacoustic imaging process created by ECE PhD candidate Mardava Gubbi has the potential to improve biopsies and catheter insertions! It automates the task of tracking needle and catheter tips, provides doctors with info about surrounding tissue, and may lower the risk of surgical complications.

A team of JHU engineers and clinicians have utilized wearable motion sensors to help predict outcomes for patients with severe brain injury. These devices record motor signals found to be correlated with levels of patient consciousness and purposeful movement and can help doctors predict patient outcomes.

The team included ECE Professor Ralph Etienne-Cummings, as well as ECE PhD candidate John Rattray!
