Today, October 15, we celebrate the birthday and legacy of F***y Jackson Coppin, the educator, trailblazer, and visionary whose impact continues to shape generations of Eagles.

Born into slavery, F***y Jackson Coppin overcame extraordinary obstacles to pursue her education and dedicate her life to teaching, leadership, and uplifting her community. As a pioneering educator and principal, she championed academic excellence and created opportunities for generations of Black students to thrive.

Her legacy lives on in every student who walks across our campus, dares to dream bigger, and strives to make a difference. At Coppin State University, we honor the woman whose name we carry and the powerful legacy of education, perseverance, and excellence she left behind.

As a transfer student and member of our S.O.A.R SQUAD , Taiyana now helps future Eagles discover what makes Coppin State University special. Through her role as a Campus Tour Guide with the Office of Admissions, she’s helping other students find their place and see what their future at Coppin could look like.
