Experience Being Moved — a live performance by MICA faculty Maia Chao at the 2026 Whitney Biennial!

📍 Floor 7, Whitney Museum of American Art
🗓️ May 14, 16 & 17 at 7 pm | May 16 at 9 pm

The work doesn't put art at the center — it puts you there. Centering the visitor's experience, Being Moved explores the unspoken rules, scripts, and habits that shape how we encounter art in museum spaces, tracing the gap between the fantasy of a profound encounter and the messier, more human realities of actually being there.

We're proud to spotlight Maia as part of our MICA 200 Stories series — and to celebrate her as a 2026 United States Artist Fellow!

gallery alley is officially open! 🎨🌿

Last Saturday, MICA unveiled its new open-air gallery on West Trenton Street — a creative greenspace celebrating the art, ecology, and heritage of the Jones Falls River and Station North Arts District. Featuring works by MICA alumni, faculty, staff, and students, led by the Center for Creative Impact.

Thank you to all of our partners for making this possible!

Video features work by Feibai Yang ’26 (Illustration Practice MA), Jordan Tierney ’85 (Visual Communications BFA), Alejandra Nuñez ’15 (Drawing BFA), Taro Cantú ’26 (Curatorial Practice MFA), and MFA Illustration Practice director Whitney Sherman, along with Camila Arroyo, Emilia López Filloy, and Lucía Balleza for “Intersticial”.
