Introducing our panelist from academia!

Dr. Est-Witte is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Johns Hopkins. She received a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and a PhD in biomedical engineering from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where she developed polymeric particle systems for immune and stem cell engineering. She was a postdoctoral fellow and Senior Professional Staff at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, where she focused on biomaterials development, microphysiological systems, and public health. Dr. Est-Witte is interested in translational research at the intersection of biomaterials, immunoengineering, and regenerative medicine.

Introducing our science policy panelist!

Mrs. Swydan Erickson is an attorney with over 40 years of experience in energy law and policy, and science policy. She received her BA in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, studied Urban Planning at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and received her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. She also has a certificate in Women’s Leadership from Oxford University’s Said School of Business. She began her career at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, went on to the American Gas Association, and then to Majority Counsel for the United States Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce. She is now the Director of Government Relations for Brown, Williams, Moorhead & Quinn, an energy consulting firm; President of the Swydan Erickson Group, an independent consulting and strategy firm; and Government Relations Strategist for Responsible Robotics, a start-up based at the University of California. All during her career, she has been very active in increasing the number of women in the STEM professions. She was Regulatory Counsel for the Association for Women in Science and was responsible for their Capitol Hill Day. She is on the Board of Directors for a non-profit that provides free leadership training for women in the sciences, including PhD students, post-docs, and early-career scientists. She also works with the Society of Physics Students to obtain government internships for physics students. She conducts communication workshops teaching scientists how to communicate to non-scientists. She guest lectures on public policy, women’s leadership and women in science and participates on committees for Women in Science and energy related issues for the National Academy of Sciences.

Introducing our industry panelists for our Women in STEM Symposium!

LeAndra Waters is a high-performing technical leader and senior manager with a proven track record of steering multi-disciplined engineering teams through complex, high-pressure projects. Based in Baltimore, MD, she currently serves as a Functional Manager 2 at Northrop Grumman Corporation, where she balances functional oversight of diverse engineering talent with technical leadership as the Software Integration Test Director for the Maritime Focused Program. Throughout her career, LeAndra has demonstrated a unique ability to maintain strategic focus and a sense of calm while managing multi-million dollar portfolios and critical mission partnerships. Her leadership spans the full project lifecycle—from proposal development and contract negotiations to system validation and final delivery.

Cailyn Hall is an Operations Manager at McCormick & Company’s Maryland Manufacturing Center in Belcamp, MD, where she leads the blending, high-speed packaging, and warehouse teams that support multiple business units. Cailyn has over 6 years of experience in industry, previously working as a Project Engineer, Process Engineer, and Production Team Manager at various chemical and food manufacturing factories. She holds a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Supply Chain Management from the University of Pittsburgh.

Ucheonye Maple is a leadership strategist, engineering executive, and founder of the School of Leadership Global.
