As the United States marks 250 years, who gets to tell the nation’s story?

On July 30, presidential historian Lindsay Chervinsky and historian and SNF Agora Institute faculty member Leah Wright will discuss myth, memory, and the American story. Journalist and political commentator Eugene Scott will moderate.

The panel will compare the 1976 bicentennial with the present moment and consider what today’s commemorations reveal about the health and future of American democracy.

The online event is co-sponsored by the Harvard Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School and the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University.

We are thrilled to share that Ruth Braunstein has been named the next director of the SNF Agora Institute, effective August 1.

Since joining the faculty in 2025, Ruth has thrown herself into the work and life of the Institute, making a tremendous impact on our community. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter under her leadership.

Register now to have an unforgettable night of painting, politics and peace tomorrow, March 27! Students and faculty are welcome to join SNF Agora Institute Visiting Fellow, Rosy Sunshine Galvan, to contribute to a collaborative mural whilst engaging in both political discussion and sound bathing.

This community workshop, “Painted Perspectives: Art as a Bridge to Civic Dialogue” draws inspiration from the popular game “We’re Not Really Strangers” and will encourage participants to engage in open political discussions. Grounding exercises and sound bathing will follow deep conversations to cultivate a calming, creative environment.

Students are especially encouraged to participate. Registration is capped, but spots are still available. Sign up soon if you are interested!
