Federal immigration policy needs to put the concerns of Americans First. State immigration policy needs to put the concerns of Mainers first. Sadly this isn’t the case right now because our politicians are more concerned with being politically correct than addressing key problems caused by the border crisis and mass immigration.
While Mainers are struggling with low wages, rising crime in our cities, and inability to fund our own programs, state and federal politicians seem more concerned about maintaining a mass influx of cheap labor voters who will back the status quo.
The Bangor GOP is saying enough is enough. As a result we are releasing a basic blueprint of policies that federal and state candidates should support in order to ensure we put Mainers first.
Candidates running for federal office need to support the following polices
-Keeping title 42 in place. Right now title 42 is one of the few polices that is preventing a massive surge of illegal immigration into the United States. Candidates running for Congress must pledge to speak up and support it remaining in place.
-Defend the Remain in Mexico policy for asylum applicants. Statistics show that 71% of asylum claims will be rejected. What sense does it make to let individuals in before their claims are processed? Many who come illegally or in this case on fraudulent asylum claims will not self deport. That in turn would put an even larger strain on US law enforcement and local communities. Processing claims before individuals are let in is the only way we can put Americans first.
-Reduce the amount of low skilled and skilled visas during periods of slow wage growth and economic termoil. The pandemic has hurt thousands across our state. We need to rebuild an economy for the American worker before we even consider approving more work visas.
-Defund sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with federal immigration laws. We cannot allow politicians to undermine the rule of law at the expense of American citizens.
-End immigration loopholes such as chain migration in order to maintain better control over the border crisis.
-Increase funding to the border patrol and finish the wall to ensure we have an effective system of border security.
Candidates running for state office need to support the following:
-Defund any Maine municipalities who decide to declare themselves as a sanctuary cities. Stifling federal and state statue undermines the rule of law and it makes Mainers less safe.
-Pass e-verify into law. Employers who decide to hire foreign nationals for cheap labor are not working in the best interests of Maine citizens. An E-verify system would prevent corrupt firms from exploiting the border crisis for profit.
-End any state involvement in the federal refugee resettlement program. Our state has already been overwhelmed by Portland’s irresponsible settlement policies. Enough is enough.
Mainers and Americans are tired of being left behind due to citizens last immigration policies. The time has come to finally change course and put our citizens first.
