Paragould resident Al Bromberg will share his father’s remarkable Holocaust survival story at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Lyon College.

The free event is open to the public.

Harry Bromberg, born in Poland in 1919, was a shoemaker who survived nine N**i work, concentration and death camps. His story of survival, perseverance and loss is told through the perspective of his son.

“Generation to Generation: Dignity” is part of the award-winning Generation to Generation documentary series by BNB Productions, created to preserve Holocaust history and pass its lessons from one generation to the next.

The Lyon College Convocation event will offer an opportunity to listen, learn and remember while honoring the stories of Holocaust survivors.

Do Democrats and Republicans really see brands such as Starbucks, Nike and Chick-fil-A differently because of their political identities?

Patrick Lynch, assistant professor of marketing at Lyon College, explored that question in today’s presentation, “Does Political Identity Shape How Consumers See Brands?”

Drawing on new research involving 960 consumers, Lynch challenged common assumptions about partisan differences in brand perception and introduced the “Alignment Spectrum,” a framework for understanding how brands can navigate an increasingly polarized marketplace.

Watch the colloquium on YouTube and explore the research for yourself.

Have you heard about the Thriving Scots initiative at Lyon College?

Funded by a U.S. Department of Education Title III Strengthening Institutions grant, Thriving Scots is designed to help Lyon students succeed in college and prepare for life after graduation.

The program focuses on strengthening student support, increasing access to resources and opportunities, and helping students build the skills, connections and confidence they need to thrive at Lyon and beyond.

Because success is about more than earning a degree. It’s about having the support and experiences needed to build a brighter future.

Summer research took center stage as three Lyon College students shared their work at the 13th annual Arkansas Undergraduate Summer Research Symposium in Little Rock.

Jada-Lynn King, Lydia Morales-Castillo and Sonja Ramirez, all from the Division of Natural Sciences, joined undergraduate and high school researchers from across Arkansas at the symposium, hosted by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Sophomores Morales-Castillo, of Batesville, and Ramirez, of Southside, conducted research with Lyon chemistry professor Dr. Matthew Thompson. Their work focused on purifying the TraI helicase protein to support research into the spread of antibiotic resistance.

King, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, conducted research at UAMS through the Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence summer research program, studying novel drugs that could trigger specific forms of cell death in cancer cells.

A special congratulations to Ramirez, who was named one of the symposium’s Top 10 Poster Presenters, an honor selected by judges!

The symposium featured 79 poster presentations and 12 oral presentations, giving Lyon students the opportunity to showcase their research alongside researchers from across the state.

We’re proud of the hands-on research opportunities our students experience at Lyon and the work they’re doing to make an impact beyond the classroom.

They came. They rafted. They conquered.

The 2026 SCOT Week Raft Race brought plenty of creativity, teamwork, cardboard, duct tape and Scot spirit to the water, but only one boat could claim the championship.

A huge congratulations to Dr. Mary Jones and the students in COR 101.01, “How Animals Make Us Human,” and their boat, “MicroWave,” our 2026 Raft Race champions! The students’ names will be engraved on a paddle in the Edwards Commons game room.

Special congratulations also go to Dr. Joseph Ivy and his students in COR 100.14, “How We Use Language,” and their boat, “The Ivy League,” for winning the Best Decorated Boat competition. Their creativity was definitely making waves!

“Congratulations to both of our winning teams! I also want to congratulate all of our COR 100 groups once again. We had some very creative and impressive boats this year, and you all did a great job making the Raft Race such a fun event,” said Dr. Mayron Faria, assistant professor of exercise science and Spragins House mentor.

Way to bring the teamwork, creativity and Scot spirit!
