From LSU to The Dallas Opera.

LSU School of Music alumnus Matthew Hrdlicka has stepped into an extraordinary new leadership role as Director of Artistic Administration at The Dallas Opera, following an international search. Previously serving as Artistic Coordinator at Pittsburgh Opera, Matthew will oversee casting, visiting artists, and distinguished young artist development initiatives, including the world-renowned Hart Institute for Women Conductors. His journey to one of opera’s leading organizations began right here in Baton Rouge as a Voice Performance student at LSU School of Music. The combination of rigorous musical training, performance opportunities, and a comprehensive arts education helped prepare Matthew for a career that has taken him from the classroom to the highest levels of the international opera world.

That’s the LSU impact.

Whether our graduates go on to perform on the world’s greatest stages, lead major arts organizations, or shape the future of the performing arts, their LSU education provides a foundation for what comes next.

Congratulations, Matthew, and best wishes in your new role with The Dallas Opera!

Remembering Professor Emeritus Milton Hallman, 1937-2025

The LSU School of Music remembers Dr. Milton Hallman, Professor Emeritus of Music, whose extraordinary career as a pianist, teacher, scholar, and author left a lasting mark on generations of LSU students.

A faculty member from 1966 to 2000, Hallman brought an exceptional depth of musical experience to the classroom. A student of renowned pianist and composer Ernst von Dohnányi, he performed nationally and internationally, recorded Dohnányi’s music, and earned recognition from The New York Times and New York’s WQXR.

For LSU students, studying with Hallman meant learning from an accomplished artist who connected performance, scholarship, and a lifelong passion for music. His legacy reflects the artistic excellence and distinguished faculty that have long defined the LSU School of Music.

We are grateful for his remarkable contributions to LSU and the generations of musicians he inspired.
