The LSU School of Art combines the best of both worlds: the resources and faculty of a large liberal arts institution with the personal attention that comes in a close-knit community. As the largest art department in Louisiana and the fourth-largest major at LSU, the School of Art brings together more than 35 full-time faculty members and 500 undergraduate and graduate students to explore and embrace stylistic freedom, while offering specific concentrations and small studio courses that give the School an intimate feel. LSU is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art & Design.

Thirteen years later, LSU Art History connections remain strong.

Lydia Treadwell (left) and Kara Blanken (right) returned to campus during LSU’s rain-soaked season opener against Clemson—a memorable game day that ended with a 51–10 Tiger victory.

Both earned master’s degrees in art history from LSU in 2013 under thesis adviser Darius A. Spieth. Today, Lydia works in higher education, while Kara has built her career in the art market.

“Even after more than a decade, Lydia’s research on Bele Bachem and Kara’s on Alexandre Lacovleff represent LSU graduate scholarship in art history at its very best,” Spieth said.

Here’s to lasting connections, successful careers and always finding your way back to LSU.
