As part of the LSU College of Engineering’s AI in Construction Week, industry, government, and academic leaders will come together on Thursday, Oct. 15, for Accelerated Data Center Delivery: People-Centered Data Center Build in Less than 12 Months.

The workshop will focus on the real-world challenges affecting data center delivery and bring together perspectives from across the industry. Invited panelists represent Crusoe Energy Systems, MMR Group, Louisiana Economic Development, and Turner Industries Group.

Chimay J. Anumba, dean and distinguished professor in the UF College of Design, Construction and Planning, will present “Enhanced Construction Project Delivery Using Digital Twins.”

The lecture will explore how digital twins can help transform construction project delivery—from information management and safety to sustainability and facilities management.

What happens when construction expertise meets artificial intelligence?

LSU Engineering is bringing together faculty, students and industry leaders Oct. 14–16 for AI in Construction Week: Building for AI. Building with AI. These three days are focused on using emerging technologies to tackle real-world challenges in construction and engineering.

The week includes conversations about digital twins and industrialized construction, a workshop focused on accelerating data center delivery, and a hands-on Claude Code workshop with representatives from Anthropic https://www.anthropic.com/?utm_source=chatgpt.com.

What does engineering look like beyond the classroom? 🛠️

For LSU Engineering students, a co-op can mean spending a semester working full time alongside engineers, contributing to real projects and putting what you’ve learned in class into practice.

It was a pleasure welcoming LSU’s new Senior Vice Chancellor and Provost, Dr. Joseph Messina, to Patrick F. Taylor Hall.

Dr. Messina began his visit by connecting with Dean Vicki Colvin and faculty over coffee, followed by a conversation with our department chairs about the opportunities and challenges ahead.

He then got a closer look at some of the spaces where LSU Engineering students and faculty are learning, researching and innovating, with visits to the iCORE Lab, MMR Group BIM Lab, Chevron Center for Engineering Education and Dow Chemical Unit Operations Lab. The tour concluded at our donor wall, recognizing those whose generosity has helped shape the college.

Thank you, Dr. Messina, for taking the time to meet our faculty and leadership and learn more about LSU Engineering. We enjoyed having you in Patrick F. Taylor Hall and look forward to working with you!

Thank you to Pedro J.J. Alvarez of Rice University for joining us today as the first speaker in the Fall 2026 Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series.

A member of the National Academy of Engineering and the George R. Brown Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice, Alvarez shared his expertise with LSU Engineering students, faculty and guests in Patrick F. Taylor Hall.
