Future educators are shaping the future of South Carolina!
Students from the South Carolina Tech-to-Teach Scholars program recently gathered at the South Carolina Department of Education in Columbia for Scholar Day with State Superintendent Ellen Weaver. The event gave aspiring teachers the chance to share their experiences, goals, and passion for making a difference in South Carolina classrooms. Scholars also heard from Dr. Tim Hardee, President of the South Carolina Technical College System, about statewide efforts to strengthen the educator workforce and address teacher shortages-especially in rural communities. We’re proud that the TCL’s Early Care and Education program is helping prepare the next generation of educators through this important initiative.

We were honored to join SouthernCarolina Alliance and the City of Hardeeville, SC of Hardeeville in welcoming the TS Conductor Board of Directors to Jasper County ahead of the Grand Opening of their new Hardeeville manufacturing facility.

This transformational $134 million investment will bring 462 new jobs to our region, strengthening economic opportunity and innovation in South Carolina.

With board members representing countries from around the world, the event highlighted what makes our corner of South Carolina truly special — our people, culture, art, hospitality, and incredible food.

We were especially proud to showcase the work of internationally renowned artist, Amiri Farris, whose inspiring artwork added a meaningful local touch to the celebration.

🚨 What an awesome week at TCL Cyber! 🔥

Our Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Cybersecurity at The Technical College of the Lowcountry hosted students from the Beaufort County School District (BCSD) Tides Program for three days this week!

Led by TCL Cyber Program Director Ronnie Bustamante and TCL Cybersecurity Instructor Brant Huff, the students dove into hands-on digital forensics labs — including email phishing analysis and metadata analysis. We wrapped up the week with a fun, high-energy Cyber Jeopardy competition, splitting the students into teams for an exciting review of everything they’ve learned!

It’s been a fantastic week introducing the next generation to the world of cybersecurity. The future of cybersecurity in the Lowcountry is looking bright! 💻🔍

On April 28, 2026, The Department of War (DoW) officially designated The Technical College of the Lowcountry as one of 28 new universities as National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity. These institutions join an elite network of over 490 schools recognized for meeting rigorous standards in cyber curricula and research.

D.R. "Ronnie" Bustamante, Cybersecurity Program Director, accepted the designation on behalf of The Technical College of the Lowcountry at the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) Community Symposium.

Service Beyond the Classroom
The Student Veterans of America Chapter of the Lowcountry is making a difference across the community through service and leadership. From volunteering at local animal shelters and cleaning up the Spanish Moss Trail, to honoring veterans through Wreaths Across America at Beaufort National Cemetery, our members are committed to giving back. Most recently, members volunteered at the RBC Heritage Tournament, raising funds to support future SVA initiatives and we’re excited to help at the Beaufort Water Festival this July!
