Four culinary students at the Technical College of the Lowcountry turned their talent into three winning dishes and $9,000 in scholarships!

Fourteen TCL students put their skills and creativity to the test at the second annual US Foods TCL Chefs Table Student Culinary Competition, held October 8 at the Culinary Institute of the South in Bluffton.

Nearly 100 guests sampled original dishes, with Chefs Table VIP supporters selecting the winners:

• Appetizer: Asher Schagelin — Southern Spring Roll
• Entrée: Sophie Tomlinson — Autumn Chicken
• Dessert: Catherine Jones and Miracle Cuthbert — The Speakeasy Sponge

Each category carried a $3,000 scholarship award, with Jones and Cuthbert sharing the dessert prize.

The experience continues as the winners will receive personalized mentoring from professional chefs at The Sea Pines Resort to refine their dishes and prepare to serve them at the 8th Annual Chefs Table Benefit & Auction on November 19 at the Harbour Town Clubhouse!

Meet David Purser, MS, RN who is now in the Emergency Department at Beaufort Memorial.Hospital. Memorial
David was part of the inaugural cohort of Student Nurse Apprentice Program (NSAP) students at TCL! We sat down with David to hear about his journey through the program and how it helped shape his nursing career. We’re so proud of him and excited to share his experience in his own words!

“The NSAP provided an incredible foundation for my transition from nursing school to becoming a licensed RN! Through hands-on experience, personalized mentorship, and guidance from experienced nurses, I strengthened my clinical skills, critical thinking, prioritization, and time management. My preceptor challenged me to take ownership of patient care while providing valuable feedback and support that helped me grow in confidence and knowledge. Working alongside the Emergency Department team showed me the importance of teamwork, communication, and collaboration, especially when caring for critically ill patients.

The program gave me a jump-start on my nursing career and helped me enter the Emergency Department feeling more prepared, confident, and ready to grow!

Free admission, inspiring business seminars, delicious food trucks, and vibrant cultural exchange all under one roof.

The Hispanic Business Association of the Lowcountry is hosting its annual event, bringing together local business leaders, entrepreneurs, and community members to celebrate the significant contributions of minority-owned businesses throughout the Lowcountry. This event is all about connection, collaboration, and opportunity and providing a space to network, exchange knowledge, build relationships, and support the continued growth and success of local businesses.

Together, we can strengthen our business community and create opportunities for everyone to thrive.

Students experienced TideLife in action today on the Beaufort Mather Campus! The Student Leadership Council hosted its first United Tides Gathering, inviting students to connect and get involved during an informal afternoon filled with music, games, and snacks on a beautiful South Carolina day. TRIO hosted Slices for Success, serving up free pizza and resource information. At the Technical College of the Lowcountry, campus life is TideLife, and it’s about more than just classes. It’s about connection, community, getting involved, and creating experiences that help our students succeed.

90 days in and we’re just getting started!

Since becoming TCL’s fourth president on July 1, Dr. Laurie Boeding has spent her first 90 days doing exactly what she said she would do: listen, learn, build relationships and get to know the students, faculty, staff, businesses, community leaders and partners who make the Lowcountry special.

She’s been in classrooms and labs, around tables with business and industry, meeting with elected and community leaders, visiting our campuses and communities - getting to know TCL and the people and places we serve.

There’s a new energy at Technical College of the Lowcountry, and a lot to look forward to.

We will start the run on Saturday, December 12, 2026 at 9 a.m. at the TCL Beaufort Mather Campus & Spanish Moss Trail. Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a casual walker, or just looking for a fun way to kick off the holiday season, we want YOU to join us!
